Here is another question. What if there is a celebrity apprentice in 2009 that runs the same dates. Then can you settle this question.

I challenge each of you to find a question that upon first reading common sense would tell you it should be settled one way, and then try to figure out how it should be settled the other way. I bet there are hundreds.
We need a board of 5 power users who approve/disapprove all questions, those questions not getting 5 yes's or no's, then they will be moved up to editor, once that process is complete then question goes live and everyone can wager on it.

Here is another question in which it could be argued in several ways, should it be voided as well.
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_B...
This question asks if she will be back in the hospital, not admitted to it, so if she goes there to visit someone, pick up something, take her kids there, or anything, that would be reason to settle as a YES... but common sense would tell you no.

I have a suggestion. Let each hubdub user go out and find1 or 2 questions which upon first reading sound like good questions and then lets parse every word of it until there can be no settlement. This might show the need for common sense, other than for an anvil up side the head (jerjustrolling you have question about that?) of Nigel, nothing might work.
Here is my one
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/What_w...
This queston upon first reading seems very easy to settle. But now looking through th eyes of someone that wants it voided, couldn't an arguement be made for a pennslyvania primary held on april 22, 2012, or aprill 22, 2016, in which barack and hillary names could be on there.
I am sure I will find one more. I ask each of you to do the same, maybe we can get throug this way.
Destry replied on March 13, 2008 07:25 to the question "Contentious questions (part 3)" in Hubdub:
There have been for years, the wishful dreamers amongst us that would like the evening news to lead with a little boy saving a puppy dog, and how a kitty cat, made the final moments of life for an old woman much more graceful. But unforutnately that is not the real world, the news stories are leading with sex, death, corruption and anything else that gets the peoples attention. This is a news forecasting site, we are here to forecast how news events will play out. That means we will have to wager on the number of deaths, the number of women raped, the other stuff that none of wish was on the news but it is.
I am a fan of the freedom of speech, even if that means allowing you to say something that offends me. I know of very few rules where that freedom is restricted, don't yell fire in crowded theater, hate speech, and those terms that would serve no purpose but to incite hatred amongst them. I would rather err on the side of too much freedom, than the side of too little. News is a nasty business, don't want to be involved in it, then don't read websites that promote it.
We need to buckle down and accept that we are all reasonable people, we can take the highs and lows, we know when we have been beat and when to live on to fight another day. In regards to all the other questions that are escalating, just apply a common sense, as a 12 yr old kid the question and then tell him what happened. Using that test we will get a fair and honest reading of intent and will wipe away every minute challenge of every word in a question.
As a piece of smart marketing, take down the questions in the limelight and don't let the new players get caught up in the insanity of it all.

Here is what the leader of the free world has to say, so what higher authority are we looking for. This is reported by the Associated Press (a pretty reliable source...) - WHITE HOUSE (AP) - A spokeswoman says President Bush views New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's resignation in disgrace as a "sad situation."
White House press secretary Dana Perino tells reporters that Bush has the governor and his family "in his thoughts and prayers."
Spitzer resigned today after becoming embroiled in a scandal involving a prostitution ring.

This is what gives Hubdub a bad feeling. I have weathered many of these crazy situations since this site just debuted, I really believe this insane back and forth is going to be the downfall of this site. It definitely gives me pause as to whether I want to wager on questions anymore. One of the questions asks if he will resign because of these event, so I am sure it could be argued that it was not just "this" event that led to him resigning. He claims to be resigning for the public good, not because of the prostitution. So if we really wanted to dissect every single letter of every single word, so we could make an argument for voiding every question on Hubdub, then feel free to do it.
I know until we have some clear common sense decision making structure, my participation will be limited. As will my recommending this site to others. So many of the new users who have signed up in last few days that I recommended are giving me feedback that this site isn't as FUN as it should be.

This is one of the major things at Hubdub that is going to push newcomers away from this site. Everyone that wagered on the question figured that a plain reading, using a reasonable approach was when would it be reported that he would resign. If we don't use common sense then the vast majority of people that come to this site, wager on these questions, then get frustrated with the semantics people try to play will just stop using hubdub.
I have been using this site from its start and have seen many of these situations, i am sure many remember the wind chill argument. They are doing nothing but giving the site bad feelings. If a category editor doesn't feel comfortable settling a question, then there should be a daily meeting of all editors and a decision made. The longer this goes on the worse it will get. Can't we just all agree to act like grown-ups, stop trying to parse every word and look for a way to reverse the intent of the question.
Destry replied on March 11, 2008 15:44 to the discussion "Photos included with questions" in Hubdub:
The site looks cooler. I wish you would add additional wagering buttons to questions. I would like to see a $500 and $1000 button. Have we figured out how the new quarterly leaderboards are going to work? Will it register just increases made during that quarter, and it really isn't fair, with large amounts of cash, moving markets and making hundreds of dollars is quite simple, but new comers will struggle to compete and the leaderboard will look eerily similar to what is there now.
Destry replied on March 11, 2008 15:40 to the question "Politics Market Quarrels" in Hubdub:
By rule even a super delegate that commits to a candidate before the convention can change thier vote with no reason. This question seems to be a simple question of which candidate will recieve the majority of votes by super delegates, I am sure it will be widely reported, and easy to settle. I believe if we try to parse every word and dissect the meaning of each syllable, then all questions could be voided. I believe the standard should be the reasonable man test, does it make sense, if so let it be.

Destry replied on March 10, 2008 07:26 to the problem "Delays in settlement" in Hubdub:
Settleing most questions is just a matter of finding a major link and then using that link to settl equestion. Hubdubbers have gotten good aadding links when they requestion settlement. I would like to see the question creator have a link for a news source to be used. I don't think we have any problems people settling questions with justifiable sources. I know for me I have my hands in about 150 markets, but would be just as willing to settle against myself as for it, depending on the news, if there is any question then the question can be flagged to the next level of category editors. What we are hoping for is the ability to people to sovle questions with minimum waiting time.
I believe we should have a group that reviews all new questions before they are alive and give them thumbs up or down, if not in agreement let category editor review. You have tons of people with amazing skills on this website. All of us want it to be fair.
Destry replied on March 10, 2008 07:10 to the question "Contentious questions (part 3)" in Hubdub:
I don't understand why people are so offended by death. In no way are we making the death occur sooner, if anything we are making people aware about pancreatic cancer and therefore maybe saving a life. News is not all about puppy dogs and lollipops. I have been in situations where I have had to face the question of taking someone off life support and never did I worry about the company I was going to keep. If you don't like the question simply don't wager on it.
If the story will make news headlines then it is something we should be able to forecast on. Whether that is how many abortions will take place in 2008 or how many soldiers die in war this month, it is opening our eyes to the news events around the world, and once we are aware of the news we can take our own small steps to do what we think is right. You don't like something going on in the political world, then show up and vote, you don't like a company sponsoring a television show, then don't buy that product or watch that show. So if you don't like the questions don't wager on them.
I have alot of money on Nigel living so Nigel if you are reading this please stay away from elevator shafts. I am not sure about jerjustrolling, he might try and push you down one to move up the leaderboard.
Freedom is a tough acto to balance, being able to say what you want, but not allowed to scream fire in movie theater, it is all about the fine lines in the sand. The courts constantly addressing these issues and with our availability to immediate access to news around the world, we have to be aware of when we cross that line. I like to error on the side of too much speech instead of limiting freedom.

Suspicious betting patterns on these roadies questions really should alert us to some gaming. Seems the questions have little action until the 12 hour mark, then huge movements, then nothing. Seems an obvious example of gaming the system just to move up the leaderboard. I am not accusing anyone in particular just seems to be odd movement.

Delay in display of cash and predictionsI know it has been mentioned in another topic, but I wanted to have a seperate topic so it would be easier for me to follow the progress. I am concerned about the updating of our cash and prediction amounts. I know that you had mentioned a bug had worked its way in. I was just wondering what the current progress is on the situation. I liked being able to know my cash situation after I cashed in, or made a wager on a question. I believe that for those of us that play the dow markets, having up to the second information is vitale.
Destry replied on March 01, 2008 20:52 to the problem "Drowning in Roadies questions!" in Hubdub:
I believe that questions about television shows that have been pre-recorded should not be allowed. This MTV show is not live, but is similar to Survivor in which these events have occured, and with a little diligence a person can find websites that are "spoiling" these episodes, which is effect gaming the system. Any time we pose a question in which we know the outcome, that is not news forecasting.
