I think what you are experiencing is the skewing of questions based on the demographics of the users. Plus the big point is that those markets have a set time they begin and questions are suspended upon the beginning of the match. So that makes not being able to follow in real time a non factor. Would it be possible to ask questions about european markets and have them suspend before trading begins, maybe that is an alternative. Plus we need to understand that with less admins to settle these markets it could take up to 24 hours to settle.

Destry replied on May 30, 2008 05:45 to the problem "Clinton Delegate Market - Escalation" in Hubdub:
I was the one who suspended this market. I didn't want there to be anymore activity until this market could be clarified and discussed. I have posted my comments about what I feel should happen on the comment section of the thread.
The problem is that when an category editor says something will settle in one direction and then later gives different methodology for settling the question, what are users to do. In this case some cashed out as soon as they can and took a loss, others decided to hold out and try to get the question clarified over and over again. I feel that we should try to eliminate these problems, especially in a market with this much activity.
I feel with this market all that can be done to make people whole again is that those users who have current positions in the market should be voided out. Those that took an unfortunate loss, should be compensated the amount they loss, so they are no worse off for cashing out, than those who stayed in and got a void. There unfortunately are going to be some who profited from this and I doubt any of them will voluntarily give up those profits, which is fine. I just think in order to make everyone feel better about hubdub we try our best not to have many of these problems and when they are noticed we work extremely quickly to fix the problem.
I would like to hear from the admins on this issue as well.-

Destry replied on May 30, 2008 02:42 to the discussion "New Rule Proposal for US Presidential Elections" in Hubdub:
I agree we need a clear rule. I was proposing having the results of the questions most likely to be what is seen on television. So average users who have never heard of the electoral college, wouldn't be confused. It is dumbing down in a way. I am comfortable with using the electoral college as the standard. I just feel that we are opening ourselves up for debate, since the electoral college doesn't meet right away, and the electors are not required to vote for the candidate, there could be reasons to suspend a market for a longer period of time.
On election night the News networks will be announcing the results of the election usually they give a breakdown by state and keep a running total on the big board of electoral college. I think we could settle markets faster if we used the popular vote method.
That is not even to start the debate that the electoral college is outdated and completely unnecessary in todays world. The only good thing that usually comes from a complete breakdown in a system is that people are more willing to find a way to fix it. Maybe there will be a fix to the primary system after we seen such craziness in the Democratic market and unpredictable results in the Republican market.
I would love to see a national primary in which the candidates voted on at the same time on the same day. Then if no candidate received 50% of the vote, then a runoff primary would take place between the two highest vote getters. It would be nice to know that the candidate chosen recieved the majority of votes. I mean McCain recieved just 36% of the vote in Florida so that means 64% of the people didn't want him, or wanted someone else.
I obviously strayed off the topic. I will say I am happy with whatever is decided.
Destry replied on May 30, 2008 01:18 to the discussion "New Rule Proposal for US Presidential Elections" in Hubdub:
It is my understanding that 48 out of the 50 states award all their electoral votes to the candidate who received the majority of popular votes. If I remember right Maine and Nebraska sort the delegates based on who wins the congressional district by popular vote. So in those two states it would be possible for both candidates to receive votes out of that state. I think for making it easier to settle questions and for the average user of hubdub we should go by vote total for individual states. I think we need a rule quickly so markets don't get started and there be no known formula.

I like having the emails. If you don't want clutter sign up for Gmail. You can set it up to help reduce clutter. I wish we could get new questions email to us. I currently have my firefox set up to tell me when new questions and new comments are on the site, but it would be nice to get updates when I am out and about on the blackberry or iphone.

I don't think it was ever decided that Hubdub couldn't make changes at their discretion without notifying the community. I believe that with some creative reasoning we can find a way to include these markets and yet keep it fair for everyone. When we have clear cut markets such as in sports with winning and losing, or markets and what their final closing number is, those should be thrown into a place where all admins could settle. As long as the question creates a clear settlement source, is easy to follow in realtime (or close to it), then I say we should find a way to allow them.

Wow makes me realize how out of mainstream I am when my first thought was IRC what is that, then I was even more astonished to know I never heard of ventrillo either.
Please email me at destry71@gmail.com and help me get up to date with how to get involved.

I think they need to move this problem higher on the priority list. We are a worldwide site, and our computers are able to show us the time anywhere in the world. So lets agree on a standard of time, update the hubdub system to show suspend time in minutes, and put this issue behind us. I think for the markets we should suspend 5-10 minutes early if there is issue of automated suspend system delaying it a few minutes.

Here is my thought. If the markets are tracked by CNBC or FOX business channel so anyone can see the movements, and If the suspend time is set before the market closes (preferably 15-30 minutes), and users know that these questions will take up to 24 hours to settle, then we should allow them. I hate to see us restricting legitimate questions.

I joined back in the wild west days, when it was wild and thrilling. I remember when I joined one of the first questions I looked at was relating to the leaderboard and if anyone would catch chris who had 13,000 dollars and next closest person was at like 5,000. Now it is a bad day on hubdub if I don't make 5-10k on here.
I still remember the fond arguement about wind chill, and kudos to the first person who remembers what user that was....
