i went from 34 followers to 14 in just an hour or less this evening. can someone help fix it for me please? my username is mio81
i'm not a power user, i haven't been with twitter long (a few weeks), and i know i had a few spam followers... but a good few real followers have gone (and someone, when i check their pages, they are following loads of other people - just me).

Yep. I think that's exactly what happened. I was a database programmer for the state before I couldn't work anymore. I know how stuff like that can happen.
I appreciate your friendliness about the whole thing. I had to voice myself, but didn't want to lose you as a friend on Twitter. I couldn't sleep all night because my mind was racing.
Hope you'll still stay my Twitter friend.
So, if I create a new account now and set up those auto replies as private, will it work? Or should I wait a bit.

Wendy,
I truly apologize. My tweet to you wasn't meant as a scold, not even in the least. I'm sorry that it came across that way.
What behavior did you observe in the software when you tried to change from public tweet to private DM?
There was a short period of time on Friday when my software had a problem validating the Twitter credentials against the Twitter system. I suspect it was unfortunately during that period of time when you tried to change from public tweets to private DMs.
That issue has now been solved.

But even without the tie in, TwitterLater is still a great service. :) – Joey Lo, on July 17, 2008 02:04

parrfolio, there's a separate thread for people who are missing 'apr to july 2008' tweets. The tweets are still in the system, but the cache needs to be refreshed, apparently.
Please see this related thread for details.

Hi Guys,
We are actively ridding the system of spammers, it's true. A large number of "re-tweet" accounts have been removed in the last 24 hours. (A "re-tweet account" is an account that is following many people, and simply duplicating messages from the public timeline instead of posting original updates.)
If your follower number drops, this may be why. If you notice that you're missing numerous followers and you're absolutely sure they are not spammers, please send a request to support with the user names of the people in question, and we'll check it out for you.
Thanks!

I know from support emails that Twitter has started to shut down accounts that they've determined to be spam bots. Do you suppose that can explain your drop in followers? – mdy, on July 03, 2008 09:37

Hope you don't mind my asking -- Did you by any chance follow, unfollow, or block someone? I ask because in my case, my "Recent" tab consistently gets wiped out whenever I unfollow, then it starts building up again. But if I don't follow, unfollow, or block, it's fine. – mdy, on July 01, 2008 00:52

When I login to twitter and look at my recent activity to see what everyone is up to, there is nothing there. Tweets will start to roll in, but if I go a couple days and come back to twitter, all recent activity is gone. My account is http://www.twitter.com/pbinder
Thanks for any help!
