Diane Cochran's reply to "Coda + SVN = Booya" was just promoted to the most useful! Erik and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.

It might be good to write a more generic "source code repository" architecture, then have plugins for specific models. That way, the mechanism for a simple check in/check out a la Dreamweaver would have the same basic look and feel as having SVN, CVS or any other SCM.

I'm more looking to kinda follow the unofficial standard for task tags, so that when I use Zend Framework (as an example) I can see all of the TODOs and FIXMEs they have left in the code. It would also save a bit of typing on at least the PHP end, since doing a TODO bookmark would be //- mark TODO <whatever> and still wouldn't show for anyone developing on the project unless they were using Coda, too.</whatever> – Diane Cochran, on June 03, 2008 13:16

In some syntax modes, we support the notion of "bookmarks" which are usually just a specially formatted comment. These bookmarks show up in the Symbols pane.

For example, in CSS mode, you can add a bookmark like so:

/* !fix this */

I don't have a list handy of which languages support this, but it's something we should add to our support page. I'll try to put that together.

Since the console log is just showing you a file on disk, you could approximate this by opening a terminal tab, and tailing the log file in question.

For example:

tail -f /usr/local/apache2/logs/error_log

or
tail -f /var/log/system.log

I believe it's there already! In the Find and Replace area, click the Checkmark drop-down list and choose Scope | Selection.

One of my most used applications outside of Coda when developing is the Console...and the constant Command+tabbing gets a little tedious when I'm debugging an application.

Could you possibly look at adding a logfile viewer, so that I get to keep my development in Coda instead of bouncing in and out?

Would there be any way we could get task tag processing for files? That way, I could create a comment like

//TODO: Write validation code here

and it would go into the symbols pane marked as a task? I think TODO, FIXME and XXX would be good default items, and they could all probably share an icon
