Don't fret. The next version supports mass storage devices. If you want to download the beta, you can get this functionality right now! However, if you have Windows 7, I'd hold off. It didn't work too well for me. Even if you don't, it's a beta version, so be aware of that. – Dignan17, on September 17, 2009 18:52

Don't worry about it! You guys shouldn't be expected to support an OS 2 and a half months before it's even released (which is when I was trying the beta). So I was trying a beta on an early OS release. That's my risk! :)
I like Songbird a lot, and though there are some things I want to see added to it, the main one I want (USB mass storage support) is something you guys are clearly working on, so I'm very happy. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the assistance, folks. After some effort, I've uninstalled 1.3 (well, Windows couldn't find it anymore, so I had to delete the files and manually remove registry entries) and I'm back to 1.2.
It's not a big deal though. The single reason I updated to 1.3 was for the mass storage device syncing, but with foldersync in 1.2, I'm about halfway to what 1.3 offers. That's fine with me.

Yikes. I tried downloading that version, but when I tried to run the executable, it then alerts me to the fact that I already have SB installed, and asks if I'd like to uninstall the old version first. I say yes, it pauses, and then the exact same message comes up. I can click on yes until the cows come home.
Can't say I have as much confidence in the beta as you do :)

Well, I guess I'm not surprised that the beta is pretty buggy in this regard.
I just backed up my phone, and now I'd like to experiment with the syncing, but the program seems a little broken. If I click on my device on the left-hand pane, it shows me the syncing options for the device. The problem is, nothing works. It starts off by default with the "Sync" and "All music..." radio buttons checked. That's not what I want at all, so I tried clicking the "selected playlists" button. But then it doesn't show any playlists in the box below. It's just blank. I tried saving this selection, but every time I leave the screen and come back, it's back to "Sync" and "All music...". Even if I select "Manually Manage" and click save, it reverts back to "Sync" and "All music...".
What's wrong?

Dignan17 shared an idea in Songbird on July 27, 2009 03:55:
Exclude folders on mass storage syncFirst of all: thank you Songbird team for putting in support for USB Mass storage device syncing into your latest beta builds! I can't tell you how excited I am about that. Now, at the risk of asking for even more:
Could you add the option so that when you set up syncing for a particular device, it only deals with a certain folder on the device? At the moment, it looks through the entire device and finds every single MP3 on it. This is fine for a really basic MP3 player, but when I plug in my TMobile G1, Songbird sees every single ringtone, audio recorder file, and podcast download on the device, and I don't want a single one of these files put on my computer.
I'm sure this is complicating things, and I'm already grateful for being able to sync my device now, but at the moment I can't set up the auto sync, which would certainly be nice.
Thanks for your time and effort!
Dignan17 replied on July 14, 2009 19:01 to the question "itunes library" in Songbird:
I'm starting with my wife's computer, who is the iTunes user. I moved her music and the library files to the NAS. So then her computer was getting all the iTunes info off the NAS.
I then installed iTunes on my own computer and pointed it to the library file on the NAS. Now, as long as iTunes is only open on one computer at a time, I can add music to either iTunes installations and it will save out to the NAS and will show up in the other iTunes when it's opened.
Thanks for the link, I'll read through that.
Dignan17 replied on July 14, 2009 18:31 to the question "itunes library" in Songbird:
So what happens when I "import" the library? Am I still able to use the other computer in my home to connect to the same library? That's what I'm doing with iTunes on both computers right now, where if I add music on one computer it saves back out to the iTunes library file (.itl file) and is then visible to iTunes on the other computer.
Will it work the same way with Songbird?
Dignan17 asked a question in Songbird on July 11, 2009 20:28:
itunes libraryI'm currently taking my wife's iTunes library and moving it onto a NAS. What I want to know is:
a) can Songbird read that library?
b) can I use Songbird on that library without messing it up?

Thanks so much! D'oh! I should have tried something like that. Wasn't aware that Media Flow had its own settings, but I should have figured it did.
That's perfect. Exactly what I wanted. – Dignan17, on April 21, 2009 18:32

Media Flow AND Filter List?Is it possible to show the Media Flow view AND the Filter List view at the same time? I like the visuals of Media Flow, but it's simply not a good way to find music in a large collection of music. I don't care if it takes up a lot of screen real estate, I've got a 30" monitor so I'll be fine :) Thanks for any help.

Same issue here. I saw that thread on Twitter's support page. It's nice that they completely disregarded all the people having this exact problem, especially when it's still occurring. I'm new to Twitter, and all I hear these days is now Twitter never has issues anymore. How rock-solid it is. Well how sketchy is this problem? It really hurts my confidence in the site as a whole.
