A comment on the idea "Internote Linking" in Evernote:
hmm - I thought on the Mac you had separate notebooks with separate tags? Maybe I got the wrong impression. – DS, on November 05, 2009 16:10

saskia - that's a good point. The reason I said money loosing venture is from a SvN post that mentioned Evernote wouldn't be profitable until 2011 or something. But what really amazes me about the company is that they're not a startup and yet everyone still treats them as if they just came out with a brand new product - they haven't, they've been around forever and hey guys at Evernote - anyone listening out there? It's time to step up and do a better job with windows line of products. And of course I would be willing to pay for the work and I'm sure others would as well if there was a bit more value. – DS, on November 01, 2009 04:30
Bjørn Wang's reply to "Internote Linking" was just promoted to the most useful! DS and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.

On windows - don't know if it's the same with mac - I still don't get why you get to use the same tags for different notebooks. I think in part why people create elaborate org schemes is because they're trying to work around the limitations of the software. Yeah I've heard that they were working on adding a link a long time ago... but I guess we still have to wait. – DS, on November 01, 2009 04:27

I'm surprised you Evernote bloated - to me it seems to be stripped down to the bare essentials. And although I'm a strong opponent of featuritis, I do wish Evernote had a little bit more oomph - like for example Omni's product that makes automatic AI type of connections between notes. I don't think Evernote - the company - is headed that way though. – DS, on November 01, 2009 04:24

You know Daniel, I have no idea... I'm a bit disappointed that Evernote although making great improvements on the Mac and Web has neglected many of its PC users... which is a bit of shame. I don't know how many PC vs Mac vs Web users there are but I imagine the PC segment is large. Although their business model is a bit strange too now that they're not charging for the software and focusing on the web which is a money loosing venture (or at least for them it seems). – DS, on September 09, 2009 20:51

I'm curious - does anyone know if this could be done through the Evernote API? They released it recently and I haven't yet had the chance to go in and play around with it. Has anyone any experience with that? Maybe a coule of volunteers will take some time since Evernote is too lazy to do it themselves ;-).

Toolbar when editing a noteAdd the toolbar when editing a note (or at least have that as an option in the options menu). You would be able to save time, instead of expanding the note and you will be able to save space because the toolbar will only show up when the note is active, so all the other notes will not have the toolbar unless the cursor is placed on them.
There is an issue of space here, but how aobut just hiding icons from right to left (these are less critical then the ones from left to right, e.g. undo, cut). And if the user wants to take advantage of all the icons either he can expand the evernote (the whole application) window or go into the epxanded note view. So the downside of this feature is failry limited.

I have added an example above, see the MIDDLE note for an implemementation of this suggestion.

It would be also great to have a visual display, infosthetics style of how notes link to each other.
First off all I loved what you've guys done for the Mac version (which I don't have because I don't have a Mac) in terms of zooming out and seeing all the notes, so I'm thinking of something similar with the interlink
Have the notes be connected to another, like a web, if anyone is familiar with MindManager or just mindmaps, or something like a taxonomy for the lack of words, maybe I'll post a picture next time.

Internote LinkingLink notes together through some sort of link or hyperlink. This makes it easier to keep track of a related pair or three notes - not enough to form a tag and more closely intertwined when working together.
