Nah that is fine. The pressure will be downward on the pack and straps, not on your laptop. 5 lbs of books isn't very heavy. You and your laptop will be fine.

Thanks for the reply.. I agree that I won't be placing the bag strap-side-down. My concern is about whether or not it's safe to wear the bag with the laptop inside while heavily loaded (~5lb of books) Is most of the pressure against the laptop? Or is it safe?

    Hey Doc,
Here's a response from one of our design team:

The Track day pack or any other laptop bag/backpack is designed to offer 360 degree scratch and minor shock protection. They are never designed to offer pressure or top - loading protection, unless they are completely hard shelled on all sides. The padding in the Track Day Pack is more than adequate for scratch and minor shock protection. In my opinion you should avoid putting the bag down on the strap side with the laptop inside for long durations, if the bag is fully loaded and front heavy. Most laptops are built to carry some amount of weight / top load but I doubt if any manufacturer will give you accurate info on that. My suggestion – If your main compartment is full of heavy stuff - don't keep your bag strap down.

Pressure on Laptop while backpack is loaded?
I purchased a Track Day Pack about two months ago. I absolutely love it as a backpack for school, but I'm concerned about the pressure put on my laptop when I'm wearing it and have books in the other compartment. I absolutely cannot lay the bag down on the strap side, as that places pressure I KNOW will damage my laptop. I have not been able to figure out how to test how much pressure is on the laptop when I wear the bag, though. The material between the padding against my back and the laptop is bowed in towards the laptop, came like this brand new, and does not offer any sort of protection. The "360" protection on your website is just around the edges. What do I do about the weight of my books? I don't want to have to buy a rigid sleeve to put inside my backpack, but I don't know if I have a choice - that's another $50-100 right there. Help!
