yes, it's annoying that this part of the infrastructure can bring wuala partially down. but we'll replicate this soon as well, so that this won't happen anymore. we're terribly sorry about the downtime and we're working hard to bring wuala back as soon as possible.
thanks for your patience and understanding!

@david: we will change the installer along with web start and i really hope it will solve the problems. i had it running on a win2k computer as well (don't have that anymore), but i also heard from people having problems. do you have a .log file in the program directory or anything that could have a look at?

Wuala group in WualaFinally, we've created a Wuala group in Wuala :) We'll add some content there over the next weeks. To start with, we have blog and press reviews, faq, photos, and the release notes (the new place for changelogs :). What else would you like to see there?
Most importantly, however, the group is for you to participate. You can post bugs, screenshots and ideas directly into the appropriate folder. We'll check them frequently (hey, after all, we get a green notification ;-) and copy urgent ones over into our internal Wuala group.
Once the group has interesting content (and ones the UI scales for groups to have thousands and thousands of members), we will notify all users. For now, we don't push it.

I just added your ideas here: http://wua.la/Wuala/Ideas/Your+Ideas/...
you can post ideas into the group yourself at any time...
about the world area: having a setting 'hide public area (world)' in the preferences would be simple. this would hide the world tab, as well as the option to publish files. if you clicked on a link that points into the world area, you'd be asked if you like to activate the world area again. this could be set by the sys admin... would that do the trick?
about synching: you'd like to subscribe to certain folders and then it would download these files automatically? that'd be simple. synching in general though as quite a "beast" and requires good concepts. it's always on the far horizon somewhere on our todo lists, but it probably won't make it to the public beta. we first need to understand what people really need... ok for you?

we haven't made it to the top 5 this time, but we're still closed so no that well-known yet. next time, show some love :)
with web start, you'll be able to send links to your friends who don't have wuala yet. up on clicking on the link, the wuala client will start without your friends needing to install wuala or to create an account (only requirement is java). the link can either be to a public file, or to a shared, password-protected folder. the nice thing about this solution is that the decryption is locally and no except owner and receiver needs to know the pw.
if you'd like to have real http access to your files, we could have have a webserver (as shown yesterday in the chat) which delivers the files. this only works for public files, but you could use it to integrate a file into a blog posting or whatever. if this is requested a lot, we could have it up and running quickly. if it's requested even more, we would also need to take care about scalability :)
i think the web start solution will cover a lot of use cases. the public links are nice to recommend public files, password-protected folders are nice to share files with people who don't have wuala yet - clicking on a link is simple. in the following weeks, we need to make this work smoothly before we release it.
