Probably this is potentially a very successful product.
So there are a large number of potential testers.
but the are only so many channels to go round
a large number of beta testers
implies a lot of data to collect
which in turn implies a lot of resources needed to handle the test
we may just haveto be patient and wait.

We are focused on our PC version at the moment so unfortunately it will be a while before our Mac version is out. If signup for an invite at the site and you will be notified. Thanks! – Anand Agarawala, on August 21, 2008 19:27

We're in free private beta at the moment, and will likely have a free and paid version when we have a public release. We will work on 64-bit vista as well. – Anand Agarawala, on August 21, 2008 17:59

You were very thorough on our original video! We are very aware of what was removed or refined. As mentioned above the initial BumpTop video was a research prototype meant to push the limits of what was possible. In the production beta version we've focused on a core featureset we think is most important, and providing a simple set of options to the users to start off with from which we will further evolve as the commercial product grows. We have improved, tweaked or sometimes removed techniques in the initial prototype based on extensive user feedback and redesign. We are listening to your feature requests though and you can vote on things at the beta download website. – Anand Agarawala, on August 20, 2008 13:32

Check out 1:22-1:27 of your video...the unpiling part isn't present
Then there's that thing at 1:48..the degree of tidiness or parameter
The Pigtail gesture?? no such thing..
You should get widgets when you hover your mouse over your pile..
No fisheye view
No compression browse
No leafer widget
No "re-oriented to display a separation of content"
Can't crease or fold documents
Can't crumple documents
Can't add running applications as thumbnails onto the desktop
Thats all Folks!

Yup, thats a very popular piece of feedback as voted on at our beta site. We'll be improving that pretty soon. – Anand Agarawala, on August 15, 2008 13:28

Doug started a conversation in BumpTop on August 11, 2008 13:07:
Accreditations and a thought about those machines from yesteryearNow this isn’t me. I copied this from his blog. A little bit irony there :P...It's a guy who decided to... well... read on...

"Yeah, big credit to Anand and his work on BumpTop. I guess I haven’t explicitly talked much about BumpTop because I thought the link was so obvious. I mean, I copied everything down to the background colors for christ sake :) So yes, I am outright copying everything I saw in the BumpTop video. No question about it. I started the project after having seen that video and suddenly it occurred to me that the stars had aligned in such a way with the Flex component libraries (PaperVision and APE) so I could pretty easily do it in Flex.
So I hope Anand doesn’t mind me getting “inspired” by his idea, don’t they say that’s the biggest form of flattery?"
Now wouldn’t it be great if Bumptop, when publicly released was able to run on the old not so good PCs as well as those better machines that can handle the OpenGL hardware requirements? I’m posting about Doug’s Flex version because I hadn't seen any post from him here although he had acknowledged the good work from Anand, and my other main point is his TileUI works fairly well on an older machine i have that doesn’t support the OpenGL and it would be great to have the same interface on that machine as on my main PC. I'd be interested in thoughts about making Bumptop compatible with non OpenGL supported GPUs.
