Anyone else have a preferred way of doing this? ideas are welcome!

I also have new windows open in a new tab... considering the bulk of ScrnShots users are most likely full time Web people, most of us probably do. However, I should think that adding "Open Links in a New Window" as a user option or setting would be cool - that way each person can decide for themselves.

There are a few different schools of thought. Some say that links should never open in a new window, and other people say that it should only happen if it's an application. For example: YouTube and Gmail both open external links in new windows, I believe.

We decided against opening external links in a new window because not every person has their browser preferences set to open new windows in new tabs (which I'm guessing you have). It gets really annoying for those people, especially on a website like ours, with so many external links.

I would recommend Command+Clicking (CRTL+click in Windows) on external links if you wish to open them in a new window.
