That would be logical if Front Row didn't have a "Sources" item on its menu. And I'm not sure there's any distinction between streaming a film from one iTunes library to another iTunes installation, or streaming it to Front Row since the only difference (as far as I know) is that one has an interface accessed via the remote control, and one doesn't. So that's a logical conclusion to draw, Alex, but it doesn't appear to synch up with the capabilities already inherent in the home networking set-up.
Lance Arthur reported a problem in Apple on August 25, 2008 20:40:
Front Row cannot find a shared iTunes libraryNot sure if this is a bug or a feature, but when I try to use Front Row to connect to a shared iTunes library on my home network, it cannot locate it at all, or any of its contents. On the same machine (MacBook Pro running 10.5.4) iTunes will find the shared library (running on a Mac Mini also running 10.5.4) no problem and I can stream all the music, TV episodes and movies I have in the library, but when I open Front Row to use the nice interface and navigate the contents, it will only look at the local machine and lists nothing at all under Sources in the menu.
Is this by design? I thought a shared library meant that I could share it on any machine. Why would iTunes see it, but Front Row ignore it?
