A comment on the problem "texmate + expandrive 2.0 = :(" in ExpanDrive:

    Edgardo
Hi, I reinstalled the upgrade, as 2.01, directly from the 1.3.4 version, using the updater, and indeed: the problems mentioned dissapeared and 2.01 does look more responsive than 1.3.4. Great! And thanks for the prompt action. – Edgardo, on May 03, 2009 02:16

    Hi Jeff
I'm not sure I have more details.. This is what I do:
    1. connect an external server using expandrive (1.3.4), so it appears mounted as a drive in Finder, and it lists the files there correctly. Call it window 1.
    2. open any other application, for instance cyberduck or Transmit, or CODA, connect to the same remote server and use it to transfer a file - call it xxx -, from my machine to that server. So - say cyberduck - also shows the files in the server, now including xxx, the one I just transferred; call it window 2.

Expected: window 1 and window 2 show the same files. (That is: the file I just transferred using cyberduck shows up in the Finder window showing the contents of the remote server mounted using expandrive).

Received: window 1 does not show the file xxx I transferred - it only shows up in window 2. I can make window 1 to show xxx by resizing it (whether or not this is a Finder problem I do not know, but such a behavior looks sloppy). Alternatively (this is what I am using in this moment), create an AppleScript that "refreshes directory contents" (shouldn't be necessary in Leopard), compile it, put it a nice loop arrow icon, and add it to the toolbar of Finder. Then click it to refresh the window that displays the (expandrive) mounted remote server contents.

The same problem happens when you delete a file in the remote server instead of transferring one to it: it shows up in window 2 but not in window 1 unless you do this nonsense thing of resizing the Finder's window to make it show the (expandrive mounted) remote server's contents.

Comment: although the workaround works, it is not satisfactory. One of the main advantages of using expandrive, I believe, one that makes a difference if compared with available freeware like cyberduck, is that remote servers are presented in Finder like any other folder - that naturally includes automatic refreshing the folder's contents when another application changes that contents. Finder works that way. So I posted this a bogus behavior.

By the way, are there news regarding the issues with expandrive 2.0?
    Regards

automatic refreshing of mounted (expan)drive does not work properly
I have a linux 64 bit server mounted as a drive with expandrive. I am using sftp and version 1.3.4 - already paid for version 2 but gave up using it until it is fixed, but I understand the same problem happens with version 2.

The problem: whenever the files in the server are changed by other programs (some files are deleted or added), for example while working with CODA, but it is reproducible as well with cyberduck or any other one, the expandrive window in Finder does not refresh automatically so I do not see the change. I got fooled badly by this problem yesterday.

I noticed also that "resizing" the Finder window, magically, the files reappear. I don't want magical file browser issues. Is there a way to fix this? Is it a MacFUSE bug? What is it? I also installed now a 'Finder refresh' application that should not be need in Leopard (see http://www.shasam.net/archives/35/), in order to deal with refresh issues in expandrive mounted drives but would prefer for this to work normally.

Sorry Jeff - I'd like to help more, but I cannot work without connection (your just released version 2). I uninstalled version 2 and installed back 1.3.4 in order to work. I am also a bit surprised with the severity of the problems of this new release 2.

I don't know if you are referring to Expandrive 2.0, but in any case: I am having exactly this same problem with the updated Expandrive: I eject them in the sidebar of Finder, they dissapear from the Finder window, but Expandrive manager shows them with a green icon, as if they were connected. This problem does not happen with Expandrive 1.3.4.

I have basically the same problem: folders and files in my mounted drive do not show at all in finder. More concretely: connecting via sftp, finder shows the tree level for the root of the mounted drive, then I click one of the directories and it opens as if it were empty (but it is filled with stuff, as I can see in the ssh terminal connected to the same drive). So I tried using the Finder menu Go -> Go To Folder, entering various of correct existing subfolders (that I see via ssh) and Finder keeps telling me that these folders do not exist (hey!). All this works fine with 1.3.4.

    Edgardo
Hi, unfortunately the new beta didn't solve the problem. I am still both: able to copy from the same sun UNIX remote server using Finder (standard operation), connecting to it via ftp://servername, and at the same time unable to copy from the same servername mounted using ExpanDrive as an FTP (not SFTP). The same message appears: " The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges..." which has no meaning in this context. What I see in addition is that when trying to copy a file something came, as if a portion of the file were transferred, but the text in it is entirely garbled. I then opened a terminal window and also tried: ftp servername, so not using the ExpanDrive mounted object, then downloaded the same file: it comes perfectly. In doing so I noticed a message on the screen: "Entering Extended Passive Mode (|||64334|)", perhaps that is relevant? Or perhaps the output of any of the commands shown by ftp help may be useful to detect where the problem is? Or perhaps the fact that I access the server through a VPN is relevant (albeit pretty standard nowadays)? That I can copy with Finder but cannot put, get or even give a look with ExpanDrive is just not satisfactory.

The copy problem happens while using FTP, and it is unexpected: Finder connects to the external server via ftp://xxx normally; it is just that Finder doesn't allow more than read activity, so that is not sufficient. But read and copy works OK with Finder, while it doesn't with ExpandDrive. The server is running a Sun UNIX OS and I access it via VPN.

I also reported a second problem yesterday: if I try to connect via SFTP, I receive another message, telling that I have the wrong version (there some 1.5 in the error message, I am now in a windows machine unable to reproduce the problem).

The advantage of connecting via FTP would be that the transfer of files is faster than connecting via SFTP (I am correct in this assumption?), but both fail. I succeed to connect via SFTP to another machine in the company, through the same VPN tunnel, that runs Linux instead of SUN UNIX, but this other one has no FTP and the transfer is a bit less than 1/2 the speed of the transfer (for download) that I have directly with Finder when I read a file (I compare here Finder via FTP to that Sun UNIX OS downloading the same file I download connecting to the same network with ExpanDrive via SFTP to the Linux machine).

Please tell me any other thing information I could bring in order to help fixing the problem ...

    Thanks in advance

Copy operation "cannot be completed" (requires only existing read rights)
Copy operation from remote server to an Apple Mac Notebook returns: The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items. However, I do have sufficient privileges (Finder can bring this file directly, connecting to the same server as a remote server).
