weckman reported a problem in Pownce on August 21, 2007 01:02:
Notifications not working!Ok, so this has been an ongoing problem for weeks now ever since I signed on and it absolutely puzzles me that, according to Google, my friends and I seem to be the only people having this particular problem.
Even though I have ALL notifications activated I receive almost NONE whatsoever, and neither do any of my friends. I understand that for most of You these are not very useful as You happen to have 100 friends or more, but I keep my circle very small und use email notifications to stay informed on new messages as the AIR app does not make a single beep and there is no mobile client for cell phones yet.
So, honestly, only about one out of ten notifications ever reaches any of us, if at all. Standard emails from Pownce, say invites or new passwords arrive without problems. I really don’t know what to do about this as it renders Pownce almost useless for me. Plus the way my friends work, if they don’t receive a notification they don’t notice it at all.
Am I really the only one with this dilemma?
Thanks so much in advance for Your help!

If I am not mistaken there is no actual way to prevent recipients from reading what I've send them anyhow once it's done, right? I mean, I cannot delete an IM message afterwards either! If they have their Pownce AIR client running they see it almost instantly and there is no way for me to know whether they have already read it or not, so deleting it after a certain amount of time would only appear rather conspicuous.
I did already have friends tell me that they wish they were able to correct messages afterwards, but as they are just that, messages, and not entries of some sort, I don't even think there should be a way to undo or change them. Think before You type I say!
Now as to deleting sent files I guess that is mostly up to You, Leah. If I want to transfer files that I consider highly delicate or valuable in nature I will probably not send them via Pownce or any similar service anyway, and with the files that I do send to friends via Pownce my only actual concern is whether or not they reach them in time (and at all).
I guess it's just a question of how much server space You have, right? I mean, theoretically, as a pro user, I could send 100MB every couple of minutes as I happen to have a rather high upload rate. No way but to wait and see. Could be an ugly way for some people to try and play Your system though, trying to bring it down through sending GBs of data every hour...
Behave, people! :-)-

I think I actually turned Pro because I wanted to dedicate myself to the service and prevent jumping off in a couple of weeks. I guess this requires some faith in the abilities of the creative team, but I am confident that Pownce will become a big hit and even far more useful than it is now.
And if it turns into one miserable failure, well, then it's just been 20 bucks, and at least in my book that's not really a lot, I mean even having one decent meal is usually more expensive, right?

Whow, whow, wait a second - does this mean that the notification option "plain message" did not include someone sending me a private message? Then what exactly does it mean?
At least that would explain why I thought most of my notifications were getting lost. I just went to the settings and discovered that now there's a new option called "private message received" which I promptly checked and saved. So I assume that from now on I will finally also get notified if someone sends me just that, a private message?
As there is no mobile client yet this would be very useful - I tend to check for notifications from Pownce via email on my N95 all the time while on the road.
Addendum: Sending messages not working as of right now (5:11 CET)
