I tried to find your email in our support inbox, but couldn't find any. Our payment provider had problem with the system because an authorization process had stopped responding which caused ques in the system.

First of all sorry to hear your partner got charged by his phone company.

Rebtel is a service to make international calls at local rates. Our goal is to help our users cut costs from the old telecom companies that charge so much for something that can cost so little. Rebtel is a prepaid service and we do not charge our users through their mobile phone provider/bill.

You mention that he used his UK mobile phone from Thailand, so his phone company is most likely charging him for roaming. Roaming is charged by phone companies for providing service in a country or network (in this case Thailand) that is different from the home location where the service was registered (UK).

We are very up-front to our customers about what the service is about we do inform our users about roaming issues on our website and we discourage using Rebtel while roaming on our forums. We are sorry you missed this information.

Did your friend reply through Rebtel or did he reply through his phone carrier?

Please note that he can only SMS through Rebtel by sending a WebSMS from his account. If he doesn't have a Rebtel account then he should SMS you directly through his phone carrier to your Canadian number.
