I think the whole system should be scrapped. There's another problem with it. The time when you put in a wager matters.

For example if the total activity is low, say $3000 then putting in a wager of $1000 will make the price jump up a lot and won't yield a good price. But putting in the same wager once there are more bets on the table will not have the same effect. So people who jump in early are punished.
