endekks asked a question in Postbox, Inc. on February 09, 2009 15:24:
Applescript support in the future?Applescript = good because it allows for a lot more extendibility for people who want it, especially for some app to app communication.
For example, I use the application Tags (from Gravity Apps) which does just what you think it might - it does system wide tagging for pretty much anything. I cannot tell you how great this has been for my projects, as I can tag emails in Mail.app, tag files, tag web pages for research, etc. Since I am trying to leave Mail.app for Postbox, I would find the ability to keep my associated mails for project tagging compiled in one location via Tags ridulously useful, rather than having separate instances (files, web pages, etc. in Tags while emails reside in their own location).
Anyway, this is just a feature request, and I have no idea what sorts of challenged it would pose to incorporate this into the application. But it would be a great addition to an already great (and getting greaterester) product.
Thanks for the time and consideration - but not so much for the inevitable posts which will state they think this is a waste of time.

Well I wish I had known this before I purchased the application. I have two BCs running with one OpenID account. I entered my special login and password - even double checked it by doing it a second time in the preferences area - and either the app crashes or displays nothing at all.
I rebooted the iPod Touch as well. Still, no dice. Not exactly a happy camper here. Hopefully I can be given some advice (which doesn't include not using OpenID) or the "contemplating multiple accounts" will quickly become "implementing multiple accounts".
It really would have been nice if a clear caveat was given on the web site about this. I am sure the TC, the 7 others and I cannot be the only people who have run into this situation.
A comment on the problem "Mac OS X Dock Icon Unread Count Incorrect" in Postbox, Inc.:
"Sounds like a lot of mail.app users expect it to be an unread count in the dock." Gmail works the same way. What number of messages you haven't read is quite often what people want to know. ^___^
Besides, right now my gmail account in postbox is continuously telling me I always have 398 unread messages, even though the app's interface is indicating that everything is read. So right now, the badge is just confusirationating me. – endekks, on February 01, 2009 17:24-

"There's quite a few things wrong with iCal. First of all, it's a Mac product. Windows and Linux users are out of luck."
Really? I didn't know that Windows and Linux users lost the ability to access ical format files or the CalDAV protocol. I could have sworn they could. – endekks, on January 30, 2009 10:02

Moreover, it seems odd that clicking something on the left-most side of the window merely delivers a message in the middle of the window telling you to type something in the upper right corner of the window to see results back in the middle of the window.
My suggestion is that the search field automatically searches all mail boxes, but that it has a tick mark next to the magnifying lens which opens a pull-down which would allow for search refinement (just the current mailbox, recipients, senders, subjects, etc). I didn't realise that search box only searched for messages for the current mailbox until I read this message, and accordingly, I actually didn't end up finding mails I was searching for earlier when they were actually really findable.
A comment on the idea "Real conversation view" in Postbox, Inc.:
Don't forget the email notifications you receive which are merely messages which tell you to go to their site to read the real message.
Add to that a Growl alert telling you to go to your mail app to find that message from the service, and you get a lot of notification for what ultimately will likely just be Facebook message of somebody you barely knew in high school making a dumbass comment on a photo of another high school student you barely knew. A whole lot of set up for a whole lot of nothing. ^___^ – endekks, on January 29, 2009 17:09

I haven't been overly meticulous in my search, but I have looked around in quite a few threads, and I have yet to come across the devs' sentiments on the matter. I hope we can get a sense of what they plan to do - moreover with a response more concrete than "this is something we hope to maybe integrate in the future" where even a general timetable is not given.
I really really want to help continue beta testing this and providing feedback on a variety of issues - currently compiling a list now - but would hate to do so for an app which I might not ever ultimately use, due to a lack of this absolutely essential feature.
Maybe allowing a simultaneous view of all mailboxes might also solve the issue of the dock icon's badge only showing the current number of unread messages for just the currently selected mailbox. Maybe not. I do my share of dev work / testing for a couple of other software developers and I fully understand that sometimes seemingly related issues might have completely separate solutions.
A comment on the idea "Multiple accounts in one window?" in Postbox, Inc.:
I don't think something like this is really feature creep. It's a mail application first and foremost, so RSS aggregators, to-do lists, remember-the-milk integration, calendars and whatnot might be more along the lines of feature creep - as compared to the ability to see multiple mail inboxes simultaneously. Mail.app and Thunderbird both display messages this way the TC (and I) don't like. Mail.app at least offers the option we want. Leaving it the way it is helps you. Making the adjustment doesn't force your experience to change.
If this particular issue does not get resolved (coupled with the automatic threading of *all* sent and received mails) I can't see myself sticking with Postbox. And that would be a shame, because I am trying to tough it out until that feature is hopefully implemented. – endekks, on January 29, 2009 16:51

That, right there, would allow for the selection of multiple mailboxes at the same time. This would pretty much solve the problem, provided that the threading "merger" would be applied for all boxes selected.
Moreover, I just hope that we would be able to do this for multiple accounts which would likely get ugly if you also had to select the Folders as well. If the "Place replies" feature included original outgoing messages of a thread, then the whole multiple Folder selection would be un-necessary. – endekks, on January 28, 2009 23:58
A comment on the idea "Real conversation view" in Postbox, Inc.:
I just tested this. And my fears have been confirmed.
I sent an email from one account within Postbox to another address (gmail). I went to Gmail in my browser, and replied to that mail. The mail from Gmail appeared in my inbox, but the original sent mail stayed in the sent box. Then in Postbox I replied to the mail from Gmail, and the newly sent reply was threaded in the inbox immediately. However, the original mail which started the thread now sits all by itself in the sent box.
If possible, the "Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to" should make sure to grab / gather / whatever *all* messages in the thread. After all, often times, the original message is pretty crucial. – endekks, on January 28, 2009 07:33
A comment on the idea "Real conversation view" in Postbox, Inc.:
Is this "Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to" feature retroactive? For instance, if I send a mail to my printer in Singapore and CC it to one of my co-workers here in Ginza it will just go to the sentbox. But what happens when I get a mail back from one of those two people? Will my original sent message be moved to the inbox, then?
That would end up separating messages quite a bit. Sometimes my sent messages are in the inbox and sometimes not. If you add the ability to command-click multiple mailboxes so you can view them simultaneously, then everything will be where it *should* be, but then everything can also be viewed more fully-threaded.
Anyway, thanks for the great response. This kind of attitude makes me want to stick it out more with Postbox. – endekks, on January 28, 2009 02:58

Gmail: Inbox list is open. Click #1 - Select the message thread I want to see. Click #2 - Click the title of the mail I want to expand and read.
Mail.app: Multiple accounts are selected. Click #1 - Select the message thread triangle I want to see (if it isn't already opened). Click #2 - Click the title of the mail I want to read in the lower pane.
At least in Mail.app I can use the arrow keys to cycle through the message titles and see each individual mail's contents without having to click the title of every single message in the thread, as I have to do in Gmail.
AGAIN... Re-read my first message about this. I am not in love with Mail.app. I merely brought it up as a frame of reference because, unlike other desktop mail applications for the Mac, it has the ability to select multiple mailboxes and view sent and received messages in one thread. And it's optional. I desperately would love to use another mail application, because Thunderbird just does not cut it, and Gmail is far from perfect, as well. – endekks, on January 27, 2009 18:41
