i started using another product as well (after much, much research) even though I'm paid through til December with Buxfer. I liked Buxfer over Mint, Quicken, Thrive, Rudd, etc. but this new one I found is just wonderful. It's a lot like Buxfer, but on major steroids, better support, better stability. It's highly customizable and things just make sense and work. I LOVE it.-

Eric replied on August 19, 2009 18:01 to the idea "Confusing Projections Page" in Buxfer:
I'm not sure I follow. The Pending transactions should be taken out to give a more accurate picture of balances ahead. The dates on the pending transactions can be in the future, and the Projections add in the bill reminders, whether they are paychecks (income) or bills (expenses).
It starts with your bank balance amount after the cleared/reconciled transactions, then, by date, adds/subtracts bills/pending transactions/repeating transactions and income.
Does that make sense?

Not fixed. There's paging now but no options to select the number of transactions per page.
"We can not provide the 'All' option since it can potentially lead to such long lists that the server crashes."
As a web software developer, I respectfully disagree. I personally hate being forced into paging, but would be happy with more options a little higher than 50 (e.g., 100, 500).
I think the graph could be better and more readable, but I do use it. I really use it to find my lowest point of cash flow during the selected period of time, so I think it's helpful.
Eric reported a problem in Buxfer on August 14, 2009 16:43:
Projections broke....again.I am so frustrated at this point I'm pissed! A 'per page' feature was added to the projections allowing you to choose between 10, 25, 50 transactions, however, there's not way to actually page through! I don't mind the choices, but please add an ALL option, if we're choosing to see 6 months of projections, I personally want to see them all at once. If this feature is going to be there, then the graph should mimic the number of transactions chosen to be displayed.
Buxfer, you should realize that the one major feature(in my mind) that you have over others is the Projections. You can make this section great, and really pull ahead of the competition. But doing stuff like this, adding functionality that doesn't work fully, or limiting what users want to see, is just....frustrating!
Rant over.

Eric replied on July 24, 2009 00:43 to the question "How do I reconcile?" in Buxfer:
Shashank,
I was assuming description because sometimes it reconciles for me and sometimes it doesn't, but your new information about it matching 'approximate' date is a better explanation.
Here's an example of what I see most of the time. I stop and get gas on July 1st for $50, later that night or the next day, I enter the transaction into Buxfer as Pending. Let's say the transaction doesn't clear my bank for several days, say July 7th. When Buxfer syncs to my bank and the transaction is downloaded, I now have 2 $50 transactions and have to delete one. However, now that you've told me about the date, I see now how some transactions get reconciled.
Maybe you could expand upon the date range looked at? I think that would really help. Or maybe if the description from the bank is "like" the description I entered (i.e., walmart) Or maybe have all 3, date, amount and description contains. I don't know that whatever algorithm you choose will make all users happy. Maybe have an option in settings that will allow a user to choose their reconcile method. IMO, I think something needs to change even if it's at least expanding the date range.
Here's why exact matching alone causes me headaches. Let's say I have a Bill Reminder that enters transactions automatically for my cable bill on the 1st every month for $100. The 1st comes around, the transaction is automatically entered, but I haven't yet paid the bill. Let's say on that same day, or the next, my wife goes shopping and spends exactly $100. What Microsoft Money did was reconcile the cable bill, when in fact it wasn't even paid yet. I have seen buxfer reconcile like this when there are exact amount transactions close together.
Whew, hope you can make sense of that!
Eric replied on July 24, 2009 00:23 to the problem "Problem syncing transactions from one bank with multiple credit cards" in Buxfer:
Here's something I noticed. I also have 2 cards with Chase (but different logins). Buxfer was initially syncing them properly, separately. However, sometimes it tries to sync both Buxfer accounts to the same card. I have both setup to sync nightly (automatically). Now, this is what I do to get around the problem, I delete the saved login information and reset it up. This seems to do the trick for me sometimes.
Eric replied on July 23, 2009 18:18 to the question "How do I reconcile?" in Buxfer:
I'm finding that sometimes reconciling is done correctly for some of my transactions. The problem, however, is that descriptions nowadays, at least from my bank, are including date/time stamps, which will make it impossible for Buxfer to reconcile using exact matching of descriptions, which is what it does now.
Having said that, though, exact mathing on amount alone can really cause headaches. This is why I switched from MIcrosoft Money, because it matched on amount, and was reconciling when I didn't want it to. I'd much rather have it NOT reconcile than reconcile incorrectly, IMO. Maybe Buxfer should consider 'like' matching of the description instead of exact matching.
Eric replied on July 23, 2009 18:12 to the question "How do you delete a repeating transaction?" in Buxfer:
In my experience with Buxfer, a repeating transaction is really a 'bill reminder', If you haven't already, try going to the Bill Reminders section, finding and deleting it from there. I had initially started using repeating transactions when I first started with Buxfer, but it has some quirkiness to it so I created bill reminders instead.
Eric replied on July 13, 2009 16:08 to the problem "Membership expiration warnings all arrive in one shot?" in Buxfer:
You data should still be there. This same thing happened to me, getting all the notifications at one time. When I signed up for 6 months my data came back correctly.
Buxfer has some serious date/time/email issues. Bill Reminders don't happen on Sundays, you can't change the time of reminders from the default 10:15, and some bill reminders don't even get emailed.
If they would simple test before they rolled out, a lot of these could get fixed before it hits the customer.-

JB's right, MInt doesn't have some of the nice features that of Buxfer. I just wish those features worked correctly all of the time. They should concentrate on fixing problems and making the product more stable rather than adding new features like the account categories on the left and account editing tool buttons that now popup when your mouse is over the account. I like those features, don't get me wrong, but I'd much rather have that time put into reworking the reconcile algorithm when downloading new transactions.
