I don't know Shawn. I've learned that people develop prejudices based on looks.
Even with a redesign, people will still see a DNA waiting to break.
People have developed a prejudice to monocoque frames over the years.
They associate them with:
Trail noise.
Dept. store bikes.
Unified Rear Triangle bikes. (Mantras, Y - bikes etc.)
Breaking.
Tis sad but true.
I've even developed my own dislike, reactions to crosswinds here in the desert.
I'd like to see some version of the "Classic" come back just for nostalgia.
I don't however, think it would make the company's bottom line go up significantly.
Then again, you never know. If it's done right, it just might take off.

Hmmmm.
Well to start with, the DHS came with 7.5' (190mm) eye to eye shocks not 200mm. Switching to the shorter shock will help some.
The fork is too long as well. It really shouldn't have something with more than 140mm travel and an axle to crown height of about 518mm at the most.
In special circumstances, the San Ans are okay with a 190 X 50mm shock, but they are best with an 6.5' X 1.5" (165 X 50mm) shock.
Special circumstances can be described as high obstacle's in the trail.
By todays standards, the San Andreas Classics are a hard core trail bike.
You will be best served by an platform style shock.
Coil or air Manitou Swinger 3-way.
Fox RP-23.
I know the Marzzochi Rocco should work well, because it works well on the Fury, but we don't know if the piggy back reservoir will fit under the subframe on a "Classic".
Risse Racing has made shocks for San Ans for years, but I don't know anyone that has bought one in recent years, so I don't know what Risse's quality is like nowadays.

There are a couple of guys in this forum at MTBR.com that can help you.
One of the guys "Shawn" has done an incredible job with his 96.

I agree with Gus' points.
I'd like to see the bike come with a good 6.5" (165mm) eye to eye shock.
A Swinger or Rocco probably.
It could keep the current shock mount on my 06 that way, and have a lot of adjustment range.
I don't mind if it has a higher BB height, like 14.5" (368mm) that is great for the riding I do, but the current 15.25" (387mm) is a bit to high.
I must admit, I can pedal over some pretty high things. :D
I still want it to be a trail bike, just a little more nimble in the corners.
Maybe actually come out with a large, that has a 1" longer top tube. I can make mine work with 22.5", but It takes a longer stem.
I'm 6' 1" .
I must admit though, the shorter TT length, does make the bike more nimble in tight single track.
Maybe reintroduce the "R" moniker. That's retro.
Polished San Ans anyone?

Something about that bike, makes me think it might be somewhere around 2000.

There are more San An owners there to answer your question.

The New San Andreas Classic.I'd like to see the new San Andreas, come in a monochromatic paint scheme.
I also think MC should consider limiting the travel. The DHS is a little long legged.
