hi,
the transcoding and waveform generation part of SoundCloud is definitely core to what we're doing, and we are making improvements to it almost every week. At the moment we're receiving upwards a *year* worth of music every single day, and this number is growing fast. The transcoding system today is much more sophisticated than it was a year ago–yet any problems with it will yield the same kind of symptoms as they did a year ago–(some) tracks will (very rarely, given how many tracks get uploaded all the time) take hours to process because there's a temporary hick-up somewhere along the line.

You're right in that this should be top priority as SoundCloud is a paid service for professionals. We're going to devote more energy to core functionality like uploading/transcoding/sharing in the future, as these processes should be running smoothly *at all times*–this should take priority over adding any new features.

So we're hearing you loud and clear on that and will do our best to make it rock-solid.

I tested this now with the player at http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/... and it turns out that it's using the file ending (e.g. ".mp3" to decide how to play back the file. since we're not appending an extension to the media url:s it won't work in the player.
However, if you set up a redirect on your site from something.mp3 to the media url, it will work well (I tested it).
Here's a test url:

http://forss.to/media/test.mp3 (will redirect to a soundcloud track)

if you paste this into the player, it will play nicely.

To do this in e.g. apache you create an .htaccess file in the same directory and add the following:

RewriteRule test.mp3 http://media.soundcloud.com/stream/QX...

I think Soundmanager 2 does the same (depending on what setting you use).

strange, should work. haven't tried with the player you mention, but you're using the right url.

yes, the good news is we just started supporting oembed, so you could definitely use it to power soundcloud on drupal.

there's no documentation yet, but you can do e.g:

http://soundcloud.com/oembed?url=http...

or follow the <link />-tag to the oembed endpoint on each track/sets/groups page...
