This 500 error is a different issue that's affecting a few accounts. Our developers are currently investigating the cause. – Ariel Waldman, on August 12, 2008 04:58

Exact Same Thing is happening to the profile I have set up for my band, and sadly, we only have like 11 friends (just getting started). So that's not the issue for us.
profile is: http://pownce.com/squeakyrock
can't use the desktop app, safari and firefox on both Windoze and Mac give me the /500 bug error. My bandmates use the profile, they are also locked out. What's weird is that I think I'm actually logged in, I am just unable to see the home page. When I'm using flock, the webpage has the /500 error, but I'm able to post notes using the flock interface. but I can't see the homepage. Basically, i can get in through the back door, but not the front.

The truth is that I don't have a secret answer to give beyond to say that we're working on it. It does take a lot of work to make an application scale well and the team experiences all the same problems with using Pownce that you do, so we're anything but oblivious to the issues. We have two full-time developers whose top priority everyday is site performance.
I'm sorry that I don't have an alternative answer to give - the ones I've given so far are honest.

A comment on the question "Custom themes? What's up with background images?" in Pownce:
Or possibly even have a static background that does not scroll with the the rest of the pages content. That way the text and page scroll but the background doesn't move. This might be nice because many backgrounds don't look good tiled/stacked on each other and many are hard to fade into a solid color if you don't want to tile. But like Erin said this is small, tiny, itty bitty – siblog, on July 28, 2008 17:56

I'm all for adding that ability! :) Bigger issues come first, of course, but if, somewhere down the line, you're looking for something small to add, I think that'd be a great thing to have. I'm all for simplicity, but it was a small issue I was curious about. :) – Erin W., on July 28, 2008 17:23

I think the definition of 'where it should be on the page' differs depending on who you talk to. Perhaps we should add the ability to determine where your image tiles from, but we were trying to keep it simple. Since the layout is centered, depending on what you're tiling, it's often better to have it center aligned. Sorry if that's not working for you.
Erin W. asked a question in Pownce on July 28, 2008 17:16:
Custom themes? What's up with background images? Is there a reason that custom backgrounds do not automatically start in the top left corner?
I spent a couple minutes today throwing together something I thought I wanted to use for my custom background, and when I uploaded the new image, it doesn't start where I would like it to start. I don't want to just keep guessing with my background and trying to get it to look how I'd actually like it to look.
I'd rather not search for something that tiles easily, because that takes all the fun out of creating something custom for my page. Earlier, I had resorted to just making one giant image (5000 x 5000), but again, that's kind of not worth it.
My image is the same size as a standard user's background (1800x1200). I'm just curious to know why it's not positioned where it should be on the page.

To clarify, the store is on SpreadShirt's servers, not Pownce's. SpreadShirt is similar to Cafe Press. – Carolyn S., on July 24, 2008 20:51

For all I've been reading above, letting You know that the site has been extremely unreliable for me as well for many days if not weeks now probably won't change a thing. Over at twitter we've seen more than once what API abuse can do.
As I mentioned in another thread, the worst part of all this, though, is that quite often, because of this unreliability, posts are lost when I try to send them. I have already taught myself to copy-paste everything I try to post on Pownce, but still, like all the other users have pointed out quite clearly - this is highly annoying. And sad as there seems to be no fast and clean way to fix this.
