My MTP experience with a Samsung SGH G800 phoneHello!
This isn't specifically a bug report, I just want to describe what happens when I try to mount my Samsung SGH G800 phone as an MTP device, maybe this is useful to someone.
Phone is recognized and appears in the sidebar. Battery power is displayed, and the correct amount of free/used space is shown, but only for a second, then the device is shown als nearly empty, then the music partition is shown as 16777216 GB (which would be nice, but is sadly just the 8^8 limit of something). I left the sync settings set to manual. When I try to add a playlist or song, it appears to work ("completed 1 item" or whatever it says on the top right of the device screen), but the phone library is empty. Phone indicates that syncing appears to go on for quite some time, but at some point Songbird stops responding and needs to be closed via taskmanager.
This is all on the phone's memory card (4GB SDHC).
On the card, the following happens:
- music that was stored in Sounds/ (the phone's default music folder) is deleted almost completely, but the folder structure of the albums remains
- album folders are duplicated in the root of the card (where the phone won't look for music) and are also empty
- playlist files appear in root, but have 0 byte size
- a (sometimes) undeletable folder with a name consisting of funky special characters/boxes appears in the root.
That's all! Hope this is useful to someone. Thanks for reading.

This would be really useful for quite a lot of applications. Backing up favourite songs, copying a playlist to the micro-SD card of your phone or other non-syncing PMPs without having to find and copy all of the songs individually, making mixtapes for people etc.
This goes quite a bit beyond just being able to burn a playlist to a CD.

I'd really love this feature right now. My library has become a little mixed up (albums getting the wrong metadata in the songbird library) and if I rescan everything I'd lose all my ratings. And searching for all the mis-tagged files individually would take ages.
One thing to debate is what should be referenced in such an xml file, the file name or the file metadata.

Songbird 1.1.1 shows wrong metadata for some albumsHello!
Problem: some files are shown to have the metadata of other files, usually by bands that are alphabetically close. So all songs by "Who made Who" might be shown with the correct metadata, all songs by the band "Why" (which are one folder down) will be shown with the metadata of the "Who made Who"-album.
So what happens is that some albums have taken on the metadata of the album in the folder above it (not hierarchically above, just the previous child on the same level).
This is odd.
The metadata is actually correct in the file, but wrong in the library. Is the any way I can batch fix this? I really can't be bothered to search for all of them by hand and I don't want to lose all my file ratings either.
What might have caused the problem:
No idea. I had an old library from when I used 1.0 a while ago. I then imported my iTunes-library over that, because I'd been using that in the mean time and wanted the ratings imported. Plus I had a watch folders set.
Halp!
Otherwise: great player. Almost all of the small naggables have been dealt with :D

espy shared an idea in Songbird on September 09, 2008 08:21:
How To: add album art for individual albums quickly and easilyThis may seem obvious to some, but I for my part spent quite a while searching for all of the covers the album art manager couldn't find, saving them to disk and then loading them again in the metadata editor. There's a quicker way though. Find the album art on the net, right-click, "Copy Image", switch to the library tab, select the album and then just right-click and paste into the little album art field in the metadata editor. Much faster.-
espy started following the idea "Add "file full path" field to Metadata Editor" in Songbird.

This is a good idea, you could of course enable the location column beforehand, but that is a little impractical, especially since the metadata window usually obscures a significant part of the screen. Just having the full path at the bottom of the metadata window would make editing metadata much more convenient.
