Eston Bond posted an update in Spymaster on July 09, 2009 07:15:
An important memorandum from the Director of MI6Hello. Eston here with an official announcement from MI6.
First of all, my apologies for the radio silence as of late. I must state with much gravitas that I have been under investigation by my own Servicemen, as MI6 suspects that I have been compromised and have become a double agent for the Russian FSB through a contact known only by her cover name Наталья. I have spent the past six years with a flawless record defending Queen and Country, and I must state that as of today this investigation has been completed and my name has been cleared. I have not been compromised by any foreign service.
Instead, I have been compromised by an entirely different and stronger force. It is a force that crosses borders with recklessness and speed, a force that is more powerful than all of the arms in my arsenal. I have been compromised by the force of love, and with the end of my investigation both my Russian counterpart and I have retired from our respective foreign services. I will cease to be the Director of MI6 on Sunday, 12 July 2009 00:00 GMT. At this point, I will be stripped of my Director title and will simply be an MI6-allied Spymaster.
With this resignation, I am giving up my post in the British Virgin Islands and relocating to America for a while, as my Russian companion has had her visas revoked for all Commonwealth states. Whilst my replacement Director has not been named by the Directorate as of yet, I suspect all MI6 spies in the field are able to continue field operations in the dark until our positions have been made more secure.

Scott, the problems you are having are primarily an issue of patience. I appreciate that you have the passion to bring up these issues, but please take time to realise our perspective as well.
We have actually paid quite a lot of attention to what people have been saying; the issue is that in many cases there are not easy solutions to most of them. Many of the ways to fix the issues with mechanics involve things we must do over time, which includes strategies players have which are causing you not to win proper items. I've devised some concepts which we can use to effectively stop much of that type of behaviour, but they take time to develop into the game and aren't simple rebalance/variable/content changes. They're expanded features.
Also, we're watching the "smart players" you have spoken of. Many of them are getting their accounts suspended or reset. Many of our legitimately-playing users have even volunteered to confess to things they've done wrong or have turned in people in their own spy rings. Spymasters like that have made the game unfair, and they shouldn't be allowed to take part in Spymaster.
I agree with you that you should be getting more in assassinations, and that takes a bit of simulation and rebalancing the way people act in-game to get that to happen. It's something I have personally been looking at for the past couple of days and have been working on ways to handle such balancing issues. Game design can be a tricky beast at times.
For lack of a better way to put it: the bitching isn't going to help us solve the problems you're having, and you've made clear what issues you are having with the game. We're moving as quickly as we can, but we are in the end a four-person development team (and expanding as we find proper talent.) Just because the rest of the internet enjoys trolling and bitching doesn't mean it should be used as an excuse over the courtesy of understanding that we're moving as quickly as we can.

Scott, you seem to have a very entitled perspective toward what we have been attempting to provide: because of the changes The Directorate has made this past week, you were able to spend the last week playing with new content, which you did, regardless of any other flaws you have felt are apparent in-game.
If you expect the difficulty level to decrease as you move forward in level, I highly recommend that you do quit before your hopes are dashed any further. Difficulty will increase, as will risk and strategy as you move forward. We could make the items cheaper, but at your level and time invested you should not be expected to receive the same rate of return that those at lesser levels have seen.
Furthermore, we too are working for you: if you feel that we aren't doing a good enough job, that is one thing; it is a completely different one to constantly ridicule what we are attempting to do. Remember, we are building Spymaster as a free service. This has ultimately been created as a side project and we have been working on it as much as we can. I have nothing more to offer you other than a "take what we can give or leave" perspective on this. We are a small team and doing what we can to help and maintain an engaging world on extremely compressed timelines.
