Ethan White replied on January 06, 2009 05:43 to the question "How do I remove the border around a javascript widget?" in PBwiki:
I have a working solution, though it's not quite what Alexander suggested. Putting the bottom portion of Alexander's code in the CSS using 'style' tags in PBwiki's 'Insert Custom Code' box didn't get rid of the border, but inserting:
.wikistyle table td,
.wikistyle table th
{
border: 0;
padding: 0;
}
does get rid of the border. I don't know much about CSS, but presumably this is getting rid of all table borders. It does appear to be possible to put borders back in by adding a 'style=' inside the 'div' tags for a particular object.
Not knowing much about CSS I'm not sure exactly how the 'js-ratings-tableWrapper' portion of Alexander's code is intended to work, but after a little playing around I got this to work:
.js-kit-rating table td,
.js-kit-rating table th
{
border: 0;
padding: 0;
}
which seems like maybe it would just focus on the js-kit widgets.
Does this look reasonable or have I done something bad/dangerous/stupid?
Thanks again, Ethan

Hi Alexander,
Thanks for your help. I've set up an example wiki with the widget on the front page: http://weecology.pbwiki.com/. The wiki is setup to be editable by anyone with an account so if you want to play around you can quickly setup a PBwiki account, click the edit tab in the upper left corner, double click on the green box and you'll see the JS-kit code that can then be edited. Let me know if I can do anything else to help.
Thanks,
Ethan

Hi Clif,
Thanks for getting back to me. It doesn't appear to be anything on JS-Kit's end as when I put the exact same code:

in a regular web page there is no border. Here's my test: http://www.biology.usu.edu/labsites/w.... The problem reminds me a bit of when all... tables I think it was... had borders due to PBwiki's default CSS. Anymore ideas?
Thanks,
Ethan

How do I remove the border around a javascript widget?I just added a javascript widget (you can see the code for the widget at http://js-kit.com/ratings/) to my wiki using the new HTML/JavaScript plugin. It works great, but there is a gray border around the widget that I'd rather not have. Is there an easy way to remove this?

I'm pretty sure that you need a premium wiki for the page and folder level access controls (see Rachel's post on the page level thread given above). I guess that you could set up each student with their own wiki to gain similar functionality, but I suspect it would be more than 3 Starbucks trips/month worth of hassle.

Jeremy,
Assuming this is a premium 2.0 wiki:
1. Create the folder
2. Select it from the Folders list in the sidebar
3. Select the Security Tab
4. Click the 'custom security' radio button
5. Select the student's name in the drop down list
6. Click 'add user'
7. Click 'save'
Then only that student and the administrators (which is presumably just you) will have access to the pages in that folder.
For similar instructions for setting this up with just pages instead of folders see:

Assuming this is a 2.0 wiki (and I think it may need to be a premium wiki but I'm not sure):
1. Create the page
2. Click on 'page security' in the bar on the right hand side of the screen
3. Click the 'custom security' radio button
4. Select the student's name in the drop down list
5. Click 'add user'
6. Click 'save'
Then only that student and the administrators (which is presumably just you) will have access to the page.

Thanks Clif. I've emailed support@pbwiki.com with all of the additional information I could think of. I've also added you as a admin on the wiki in case this helps with tracking down the problem. – Ethan White, on August 02, 2008 20:20
Ethan White reported a problem in PBwiki on August 02, 2008 14:55:
Page and folder security is brokenThe custom security feature for both pages and folders appears to be broken. I added several new users to a secured folder last night. Everything seemed to work fine, but I received an email this morning from one of the users saying that they didn't have access. I logged in and I couldn't see the user names of any users (though there lines in the user table, just no names) and there were not enough lines for the new users I added to be included. I deleted all of the blank lines and added all of the users again. When I clicked save they all disappeared. I tried this several times in the folder's security with the same result and the tried to use the page security instead, again same result. I am the administrator and the wiki is 2.0 and upgraded to gold. Please help!

Recent visitors plugin just lost all recent visitorsI just logged into my wiki and found that all of the entries in the recent visitors plugin (installed in the sidebar) had disappeared. They were there earlier in the day and they were distributed fairly evenly over the last week or so (including at least one visit today). The sidebar has not been edited in several days.

While PBwiki is working on this feature (keep up the good work PBwiki!) I'm having good luck using Remember the Milk's Google Gadget to keep a To Do list on my wiki. Just set up an account (http://www.rememberthemilk.com) and then use the embed code from iGoogle and you're all set.-
