ethanjim replied on October 25, 2009 12:53 to the question "ASIO plug in needed" in Songbird:
Okay lets put it this way, if they do ever implement an ASIO driver then its going to be at least a year or 2 off because they still need to get the core media player functions, and to be completely honest you don't need an ASIO driver for core functionality. To be frank I'd much rather enjoy my music the way it is instead of worrying about how the bits go through my computer kernel. If I really cared I wouldn't be playing my music in a room which wasn't sound proof.

Apparently the creator hasn't been active the past 2 months, but a contributer to the add-on has updated lyricsMaster which is available here http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=e1...
I don't believe he has access rights actually upload the updated version on the add-ons site so that's why it has been externally hosted

A comment on the idea "CD Rip / Burn Support" in Songbird:
Looking at the gst-plugins folder there is already a "gstwavenc.dll" so that must be capable of encoding to Wav... It just needs an encoding profile – ethanjim, on October 24, 2009 11:06

Yeah it would be good, Ive actually managed to compile Gstreamer + Ugly, Good & Bad Plugins (I have the Lame encoder gstreamer Dlls which i would love to use for mp3 encoding) just don't really know what to do from there though...
On the subject of CD ripping you may not have noticed that theres a Mac CD ripping pluggin on the nightly builds!-

ethanjim replied on October 21, 2009 20:52 to the question "Building Gstreamer + Codecs?" in Songbird:
A question i should have asked before i jumped into this... What version of Gstreamer should I use? I don't want to come up with something then run into compatability issues!
I started using the most current version, but apparently there is a file missing from the base plugins so ive moved a version backwars 0.10.24 and im not having any problems so far... Just installing the base plugins all good so far :)
One thing i also noticed is that gst-monkey audio is 0.8.2 does this mean i'll have to go way back to get that compiled ?

ethanjim shared an idea in Songbird on October 20, 2009 23:37:
Twitter Add-on for Songbird?Other browser such as Firefox and Opera have Add-ons / Widgets to integrate them with Twitter, and i'm really surprised that songbird doesn't have a dedicated add-on to post and notify of @replies within the player. I'm guessing this would also link into plans to integrate songbird with social networks :)
I know Live Tweeter can tweet current songs so the functionality to do this is already there!
Personally I think it'd be a cool add-on and would be cool to have "posted from Songbird" on some of my posts ;)

ethanjim replied on October 20, 2009 19:11 to the question "Who is working on the ipod addon?" in Songbird:
Maybe it's worth putting up a bounty for some of it's development? Looking at the video wire frames, the people who drew them up used the iPod as an example so I'm guessing that POTI are hoping to add Video Sync to the iPod.
From a business strategy point of view putting money into the iPod add-on is useless since Songbird will never be endorsed or supported by Apple, but from a community point of view it would make allot of "customers" happy especially on the Linux side of Songbird!
ethanjim replied on October 20, 2009 19:06 to the question "Poor Start up performance" in Songbird:
Are you running the latest version of songbird? Because if you're running an older build then you are probably missing out on a fair few performance fixes!
I am under the belief that the start-up time is to do with the size of the library and how it loads up the songs into the library which looking at some of the bugs to be fixed in the1.5 version will probably be ironed for its release late this year :)
ethanjim replied on October 20, 2009 18:59 to the problem "Slow Performance" in Songbird:
A few weeks ago I found this bug on Bugzilla http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... which once fixed should significantly improve the library's response. From what I can gather that bug is the reason songbird is slow on the Library side of things.
Personally I find the the 1.4 beta is allot more responsive for me on Windows, but with video been added for the 1.5 I'm guessing that they will be fine tuning everything on songbird to be able to cope with it.
ethanjim replied on October 20, 2009 18:52 to the question "can i sync my mp3 player ?" in Songbird:
If media player doesn't even detect it any more maybe your issue is more a problem with windows and not songbird? If your device is meant to connect via MTP then you should check if your device is using the windows MTP Driver. To check this got to Control Panel > Computer Management > Device Manager then find your device on the Tree > Update Driver >Advanced >Don't Search I will choose the driver to install.
If the Device can use MTP this should show 2 drivers the MTP Driver and the MSC Driver, then simpily click the MTP Driver and Next to install the Driver. Let me know how it goes :)
-- PS if this works you will need to grab the 1.4 beta of songbird with the MTP fixes to sync.
