Hi!
I have no problem with ranting. Forums are for sharing opinions, and there are many things that we should have delivered long ago. Could you tell me your ticket number — I'd like to follow up with you directly about some of your requests. – Evan, on November 05, 2009 02:24

A comment on the idea "Subject line in email notification about the group activity" in Ning:
Hey Jens,
After this release, group notifications should have the title of the discussions — both for replies and new discussions. We don't typically announce every single change in releases (such as bug fixes and string changes like this). This was one of those small changes. – Evan, on November 04, 2009 19:45
A comment on the problem "owner of ning page banned from own page." in Ning:
Hi Ruth, I'm not sure why that would be. Best to check with the Help Center about that, and be sure to include the URL of the page you're looking at. – Evan, on October 31, 2009 23:45

Hey J.A.N.,
Getting to the point of sending NCs emails is one of our near-term communication goals, and as I said, that's something totally new that we're working on delivering as soon as possible. Until that point, the Ning Blog remains the best way to stay in the loop on what's coming.
In terms of RSS, if you subscribe your RSS reader to the Ning Blog - New Releases feed (http://blog.ning.com/category/new-rel...) all you'll see are the posts about new releases. Not spotlights about other networks.
Cheers,
Evan

Hey Dogg!
That's a great point. And that's why one of the things we promised was a "bi-weekly email with links to the best of the new Network Creators Network and news from Ning."
Note that this may take the form of a broadcast message on the new Network Creators Network, or completely separate mailing. That's what we're trying to figure out right now. Keep an eye out for news on that in the coming weeks :)
Cheers,
Evan

Hey J.A.N.,
You're right — that's exactly what we promised. And that's also what we did. On Tuesday, we posted on the Ning Blog that default profile page layouts would be changing on Friday. On Wednesday, we posted on the Ning Blog that we'd also be adding the ability to export your event's attendees in Friday's release.
Then, on Friday immediately after the release, we posted again on the blog announcing the release had been deployed, and noting that it also included two additional bug fixes. Courtenay also started this thread on GetSatisfaction in case anyone had missed the blog posts.
While we can't promise that releases will always go perfectly (it didn't in this case, but we've now fixed all the significant outstanding issues), we will continue to stick to our pledge of keeping everyone in the loop. We're looking forward to having a lot of conversations and communications about releases on the new Network Creators Network, but for the immediate future, the New Releases category of the Ning Blog remains the best place to hear about what's coming up:
http://blog.ning.com/category/new-rel...
And if you want an advance head ups on what's coming, keep an eye on the New Releases category or its RSS feed.
Thanks,

Evan replied on October 31, 2009 20:22 to the problem "owner of ning page banned from own page." in Ning:
Hi Ruth!
I think the easiest thing to do would be to use a different browser or a different computer to access the network. Then, when you hit the sign up/sign in page, make sure you don't enter the email address that has been banned. Sign in with the Network Creator's email address — then unban whatever account was banned.
The Help Center can help you further, but this might allow you to solve the issue on your own. If you don't know the email address of the Network Creator's account, you'll need to go through the Help Center.
Hope this helps,
Evan
Evan replied on October 31, 2009 17:05 to the problem "owner of ning page banned from own page." in Ning:
Hi Ruth!
I'm sorry you ran into that. We've built the system so that:
- NCs cannot be banned
- You cannot ban yourself
Check out what the Manage-Members page looks like on my network when I sign in as an admin:

Note that when I'm signed in as an admin, there's no checkbox next to the Network Creator's account, so it's not possible for me to ban them. Additionally, there's no checkbox next to my own name.
It's possible that you joined with another account under a secondary or similar email address, and then you banned that account. Here's one way to see what's going on — if you sign in to ning.com with the email address that you think you used to create the network, does it show up under "Social Networks" in the "I've Created" tab? If not, then you created it with a different account.
In any case, we can't totally solve the problem here, but the Help Center crew should be able to sort this out for you, if they haven't alraedy.
Cheers,

Evan replied on October 31, 2009 04:48 to the problem "iFrame in Text Box redirects entire site to iFrame URL." in Ning:
Hi Jen!
If that's happening, it certainly wasn't intended. Additionally, I just put an iFrame in a text box on my network and it worked fine — no redirecting. You should contact the Help Center, and we'll do our best to help!

Evan replied on October 30, 2009 18:40 to the question "What about the Company announcement for a facelift of broadcast messaging?" in Ning:
Hi Jens!
Sounds great. There's a little bit of bad news in that we probably don't have enough time to get the strings translated in time for the release, but if they don't make it, they should be translated shortly thereafter. You also should be able to translate them yourself in the meantime, if you don't want any English exposed.
Thanks,
Evan

Evan replied on October 30, 2009 17:35 to the idea "Subject line in email notification about the group activity" in Ning:
Hey Jens!
This is a great suggestion. As part of the email notifications project, we're already making improvements right along these lines. For example, all discussion reply notifications will now include the title of the discussion. I took another look, though, and it looks like we missed including the title of the discussion when you're getting emails about new discussions in a forum, in a group forum or in a forum category.
I'm working to try to slip this into the Email Notifications project, which is being release next month. So thanks for the suggestion!

Evan replied on October 30, 2009 17:31 to the question "What about the Company announcement for a facelift of broadcast messaging?" in Ning:
Hi Jens!
Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure if you were asking about the email notifications project, or about HTML broadcast messages.
In terms of HTML for broadcast messages, that's very high on our priority list, and we hope to add that feature shortly. Keep an eye on the Ning blog for news!

Evan replied on October 29, 2009 20:53 to the question "Member status not updating in Latest Activity." in Ning:
Hi FedMedic & Charles!
I'm sorry you ran into that. The Latest Activity feed on the Main Page has a slight caching delay of up to 5 minutes for new content — that's universal, for photos, status, etc. However, when you delete things from the feed, they should disappear instantly (and be gone when you refresh).
Note that there is not a significant delay for Profile Page Latest Activity feeds. If you update your status, upload a photo, etc., you should see that almost instantly if you visit your profile page feed.
If you're seeing delays over 5 mins on Main, drop us a note in the Help Center and we'll see what's going on!
Cheers,
Evan

Evan replied on October 29, 2009 19:54 to the question "What about the Company announcement for a facelift of broadcast messaging?" in Ning:
Hi Jens!
I'm not 100% clear on what release you're asking about. If you're wondering if our email notifications release is still slated for November — it sure is. And we'll be posting details about what's in that release in the coming days on the Ning Blog.
We're aiming to tackle HTML broadcast improvements shortly after that too, and automatic comments for new members and customized welcome messages are a bit farther down the roadmap (though still a priority).
Thanks,

Evan replied on October 22, 2009 22:35 to the question "Which Members and Friends view do you prefer?" in Ning:
Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for your feedback here. Looking at the feedback, along with a few NCs I spoke with directly, it seems like preferences are mixed between the old view and the new, though looks like the majority favor the old grid-style view. With opinions mixed and our internal data showing a small jump in platform-wide traffic on the Friends page after we switched to the list view, I think we won't switch the view back for everyone.
Instead, what we'll do in the next few weeks is add the ability for you to choose which view you'd like to have on your Ning Network, so you can do what's best for your particular Ning Network. This is most likely going to take the form of a radio button your Manage-Feature Controls page. If you have concerns about that, feel free to let me know :)
A huge thanks for your feedback, and I look forward to bringing this option to your Ning Networks!

Hi FedMedic! Thanks for getting back to me. What you want does matter — and that's why I'm asking :) I'm going to give some others a chance to reply, and then we'll figure out what we're doing for these pages. – Evan, on October 22, 2009 00:05
