Part of the reason I hate going to gyms and gave up going to Bally's is that when you go there, you never stop feeling like they are marketing to you: juices, workout clothes, "join your friends up" campaigns, it's constant.
Mostly, I find it is a rather impersonal activity. Going is a somewhat isolating experience.
Why not schedule group, or team activites, like indoor volleyball? This would provide another opportunity to connect with others, create networks and connections with other health-conscious and like-minded, supportive people, as well as provide an improved social atmosphere.
One of my greatest complaints is the OVERLY LOUD techno music that seems to blare through the entire place, lending an additional element of the unreal and bizarre to the experience, music at odds with the natural bio-rhythms, from which I often leave feeling more stressed-out than when I arrived.
When cycling, I'd rather nature scenes which might assist you to feel you are actually participating outdoors. I prefer that to news, soaps, primetime TV, court-TV, political debates, etc. While I know that for some this is their only time to catch up on world events, for most it is a time to unwind and destress.
While tastes differ, even in bars they change up the music every 15 minutes to allow for everyone's tastes and so all might participate and have fun. This could be adopted at clubs so there could be sets of nature sounds, techno/electronica, classic rock, or meditative/new age music to allow people who are attempting a body-mind connection through exercise to further their process, rather than make them work all the harder to achieve it.
It's easier to go for a walk in my neighborhood and play in the park with my son for 45 minutes; I don't have to wait for machines, be irritated by the music or TV (which I don't watch at all at home), plus it's more relaxing, more rewarding and it's free!
