ex-expedia reported a problem in Expedia on September 26, 2008 09:20:
Expedia car hire scamI booked and paid for a sixt car rental through Expedia £245.71 (28/6/08) rental date 16/7/08 - 27/7/08. The car was fine and I returned it, clean, undamaged and full of petrol to Sixt's closed office at Perpignan airport at 9pm on 27/7/08 putting the keys and some paperwork through the slot in their counter. On my next (August) visa bill Sixt had withdrawn £310.71 mistakenly for the same rental during the day on the 27/7/08, before I had returned the car to a deserted office at 9pm. I asked Expedia as my agent to sort it out. They spoke to Sixt UK who said the money was for damage to the car, there was no damage and there has been no supporting paperwork from Sixt to suggest otherwise. Sixt took the money from my account before I had returned the car so do they have some sort of magic looking glass that can see into the future? As the office was closed at 9pm on the 27th, nobody could have seen the undamaged car until the 28th, they took the money from my account on the 27th!!! and rather than admit it was simply a booking error, they blamed it on non-existent damage. When Expedia spoke to Sixt, they didn't even know which make or model I had hired, this really is theft by what I thought was a reputable company. My car hire has cost me in excess of £550 which must make Sixt the most expensive car hire company in Europe. My Sixt confirmation number: 3533248213, the funds were withdrawn from my visa account in Paris. I am now unemployed, I have not cleared this spurious amount from my visa account, with charges it is now up to £336.02, I am extremely depressed about the whole situation.

The Office of Fair Trading in the UK says that it is an agents responsibility (as they have excepted money for a service) to sort matters out, I have given Expedia since the 22nd August 2008 (when I first registered the complaint) to sort things out, they still haven't. I hope this reaches you, if it does'nt, all I have wasted is my time, just like Expedia has done so far.
