i'm getting the same error with twitteriffic on mac and Spaz on pc. I don't run them at the same time, even changed my password to be sure. I'm also not using any other apps/sites like SocialThing.

A bit of feedback to the brightkite team: the Privacy and Sharing tabs definitely overlap and create some confusion. Perhaps they can be streamlined?

I think by default, posts are hidden to "everyone" when you are in private mode. You can change this on the Account Settings -> Privacy screen.

Brightkite isn't creating tweets for me. I've confirmed my twitter credentials are correct and that "When I post a note" is checked, but no updates are being pushed. Brightkite is, however, updating my location, but I didn't think that this was an either/or.

Did I miss something?

Thanks for the response, Eric. It is still happening, but it's frustratingly intermittent. As noted, I've cleared the application cache, removed prefs, deleted the app and reinstalled -- a few times -- to no avail.

Any other ideas?

So sorry to hear about this problem. Kind of defeats the purpose of having that in the menu bar, doesn't it?

No problem. It's was happening consistently starting at some point last week. I tried removing my twitter connection, then re-adding and that corrected the problem.

If it's helpful to know, one thing I noticed is that one grouping of my tweets had the socialthing logo, while another had my twitter avatar pic, as if it saw it as disassociated with me.

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you but have you been experiencing this regularly? We've noticed this happens on occasion, but not often, and it's also something that will likely be resolved by our next big version.

For some time now, I'll mark all tweets as read yet still get new tweet notification via the menu bar icon -- though there are no new tweets. This will happen a dozen or so times a day for me.

As far as I can tell, you need to click on the "Update totals" button before logging in. Did you do that?
