I have looked at the plugin API and there really isn't a way to do this without having a "second" blog that you are posting too first - which is not ideal. I understand that Microsoft isn't interested in supporting another non-standard API but it would be nice if as an developer I could override the publish behaviour and just let live writer manage the content development.

The tumblr API is non-standard because tumblr's goal is to keep things simple. The tumblr API is probably one of the simplest APIs in teh Web 2.0 space and would be really easy for me to support as a plugin if I could just get a place in the API to hook.
