Welcome Nick!
I am excited about the changes perspective this announcement brings, although the ratio of future tense phrases also brings some flashbacks in my mind.
I understand the limitations of the small team and wish you guys the best of luck. And I hope to be able to contribute as well in keeping this a good and open communication channel for everyone.
And here is my first suggestion to help the management of GS: Since you classified the post types into 4 different areas, why not make each of those areas a "Product" and educate people to post their feedback in the right place?
Just my 2 cents.

I think your best bet would be the Analytics box, that will insert code at the bottom of every page. You can *probably* put some style rules in there or even a little bit of javascritpt to manipulate the pages DOM and remove that tab. – Fabricio Zuardi, on May 29, 2009 18:07

On that particular case, yes. It was from an actual recently-joined “user”. – Fabricio Zuardi, on May 22, 2009 14:21
Fabricio Zuardi shared an idea in Ning on May 21, 2009 21:55:
Suggestions to fight profile page spamI've just banned one of those spambot users that joined my network to post "come watch my webcam" type of spam messages on my network's members profiles, and I want to propose some simple changes that can be implemented by the Ning engineering team that can hopefully lower the incidence of this kind of spammers as it looks like this is becoming more frequent nowadays and to simply ask network owners to turn on moderation for new members is not really a solution to the problem... so, my suggestions:
1- require captchas to post on a profile page of someone that is not your friend
2- add rel="nofollow" to all links on comments on profile pages
3- filter new comments through Akismet or some other similar service (no need for in-house development)
4- give the network owners the option to enable some sort of pre-requisites for new members to post on other members pages, like for example: “the user must have posted in at least one forum topic and be a member for at least 2 weeks before a permission to post on non-friends profile pages is granted”
PS: I would love to send a patch to some of this improvements in case Ning decides to re-open the source code of the application ; )-

Thanks for sharing this info.
It would be nice if http://status.ning.com was used to post updates on the services that are currently up, since I believe that is the official place for that kind of info...
Extra points if the messages can actually contain any detail :) – Fabricio Zuardi, on May 01, 2009 08:54

I am having this same problem for a week now on some of my networks too.
But on my case the websites that have been down for a week are old applications that predates the centralized-code model, not sure if it is your case.
I am also having trouble signing-in on the one old network that is still up, but that is a different issue.

I don't know of all the places the link can appear, but with firebug you can inspect the page's HTML code and find out which class or CSS rule you need to hide something...
For example, the invite link after Friends in the box on the right is inside a small tag that is inside a span tag with class name xj_count_friendRequestsReceived, so the css code to hide it would be something like:
– Fabricio Zuardi, on April 24, 2009 15:54
.xj_count_friendRequestsReceived small{
display:none !important;
}

Fabricio Zuardi replied on April 24, 2009 02:34 to the question "Administrator Control" in Ning:
If you are the site owner and need to edit any content object of your network, one very advanced way to do that is using the "Content Manager".
Note that this is a very powerful tool that can cause big problems if you don't know what you are doing. So I would not recommend using it unless the change you need is pretty important, you make backups and above all understand what the content objects and parameters you will be editing are, this is definitely not a toy and can break your site easily (and that would be your own fault).
With that said, if you are feeling confident and have accepted to take risks, here is how to access it: /admin/index/manage
Proceed with caution.
Fabricio Zuardi replied on April 24, 2009 01:41 to the question "How can I disable the "Invite" tab?" in Ning:
I don't think you can disable the invite page, meaning that one that knows the url will still be able to access it. But one thing you can do using CSS is to hide the Invite tab.
Just go to the Manage > Appearance section, then choose Advanced and paste the following at the end of the text box:
#xg_tab_invite{
display:none !important;
}

well, if it is google cached or yahoo cached I am pretty sure Warrick may be able to reconstruct... just saying...
I don't plan to do that and I think we should simply ask Ning to keep it, even if it was static read-only, since there are a lot of useful information in there. – Fabricio Zuardi, on April 23, 2009 22:44
