Alert mods of a channelSometimes it's hard to reach the mods of a channel if you want to tell themthere is something wrong. I know from personal experience that I tend to ignore my phone from time to time so that I miss sometimes an abuser
My idea is: a special notice for all the mods and the owner of a channel (that are online at the time of that message) when a user writes a message like "!mods @abc is harassing me" or something similar - the mods would know at once that there is a problem with a certain user and they don't have to read the backlog when they were not at their phone for some time.
In future iterations of BC a message starting with !mods could be handled as a special message that isn't published in the channel but in the moderators section that I proposed in a nother post

So, two ideas today
1) There should be a side channel to every channel where mods can discuss stuff without the regular people of the channel noticing it. Yet it may not be of much hep, but when you bring the article styled channels people could discuss new artcles in there and who may write what
2) Unsupervised/Unmoderated channels... there are some that just have their owner and no mods and now the owner is gone. I think you understand that it became pretty anarchic in those. My idea is: if there was no one with at least mod rights for, say two weeks, then the channel becomes locked down. No more posting possible by anybody. A user may apply by the team for channel ownership to reopen the channel. there should be a holiday setting, just in case a user knows he'll be offline for some time, that also locks the channel down but doesn't make it possible for others to apply for this channel

And me again...
A nice feature would be a linklist in channels. So we don't have to tell every user that you can find good themes at tehkseven.net but that mods (and maybe users) can add their top picks to a list of links that are quickly available
This feature wouldn't be usefull for every channel, but some could profit from this
Maybe that could be something for the extended channel description that I saw in the Android mock up.

Let me again beg for an ignore function - it's not just the annoyance by messages but aso continued follow requests and channel invtations. I've had to decline the follow request of some users like 30 times until they stopped sending more. And the same is true for channel invitations
So, please: give us the ability to ignore users completly (and not just the current mental ignorance)

I'd also like to see tas for channels - that way users could search for a general area of interest and not just for a specific channel name. Like tagging #heavymetal with "music, rock, metal" but #welovemusic with "music, general chat" and #metal with "music, rock, metal, german" so a user looking for "music" would get all three channels but a user looking for language specific channels (in this example: german channels) just would receive #metal
In my opinion that system is way better then a search just for channel names, since it delivers several results and the user can look for the result that fits hm best.

Good point. And if I interpreted Simons mock up of the Android client right that is a feature that is planned – Fahrertuer, on November 08, 2009 20:59

While I'm at it: let me hijack my threat.
I have another idea that could be implemented into ngChannels. Channel Owners (or maybe Mods also) should have the ability to remove posts from the timeline if they contain unwanted material (abuse, offtopic, links to dubious pages...)
So far this is only possible for the server admins, but I think it could be usefull to keep BC (mostly) pg rated.

Advanced Uner-info for ModsI said it earlier today in the suggestions channel already, but here is a better place for discussions
My idea was: a system that allows Mods to flag a user in a channel for suspicious behaviour - reprimands are easily forgotten and one Mod might miss the reprimand by another Mod of that channel.
So: a Mod should be able to flag said user with a smal note like "too much foul language" or "Has been abusing user x" that is readable by the other mods of the channel would allow for a much better moderation of the channels. A kick-history could also be implemented
This would allow the staff to realize whether a particular user is a system-wide abuser or not, in case that account should be suspended or not.

Language specific help channelsMy idea is: for some people describing a technical problem in a foreign language is hard. The same is true for understanding the answers.
So my idea is to create language specific help channels with knowledgable users that can help other people in those channels.
Idea for a naming convention: the regular help channel should (could) be renamed to "buddycloud help" the german help channel could be "buddycloud Hilfe" and so on.
Idea for finding the users to fill those channels: there is already a channel that has many people that help - ask them to start a new help channel in their mothertongue
Fahrertuer replied on September 02, 2009 15:11 to the question "Mini User Profile?" in buddycloud:
The idea is good. But from my experience it's a worthless effort. 90% of the gals online are men after all. And it's the same with most personal information given online I think.
I don't really care whether the person I chat with is male or female.
And you can't force ppl to fill those profiles out. From my experience with messengers like ICQ it is that only a quarter of the users have filled their profile with more then just the username.

That is a damn good idea.
I've seen several users in the past few months that were from Bremen like be but they never did anything. I tried to follow them but nothing came from it.
With a decent introduction this could change (maybe with small animations to show directly what is meant to be done - pictures always work better then a thousand words. So small animations must be even better)-

I'd still like an ignore function. Some of the kids can be more then a bit annoying. I don't wanna leave channels that I like (or unfollow persons) but in some channels it's almost unbearable (mostly the same users that annoy me...) – Fahrertuer, on August 27, 2009 13:33

Get yapping users in the official channels to shut upTo keep the 'official' channels (suggestions, location problems, ...) as spam-chat free as possible: just add a small bot that kicks in when noone of the Team is online. It should just state "Please state your problem with x" or "While we are away please post your suestions at getsatisfaction.com/..." (a bit more fleshed out of course) whenever a message is written.
It doesn't bother the legit user - it even tells him that the Team is not available and he has to wait. But a spammer/chatter will be annoyed fast with the constant same message and hopefully disappear.
I dunno whether ths idea works, but I may test it a bit as a human bot for you

Writing reviews on certain locations (like restaurants, hotels, clubs, bars...)I was just thinking about a review feature for certain places. Not for all of them.
My idea was: rate hotels, restaurant, bars and so on with buddycloud. Would be a nice and helpfull feature. We can witness people travelling (and since we've done so already we know there are people who use bc on their travels) to new places, so why not help them find their way around in a new location. Tell them where you can good food, where you can stay and which locations to stay away from and, if applicable put a link to the homepage of that location also to the review.
I don't think it's a feature for the near future but definitly worth thinking about
A comment on the idea "Follow a person without following the personal channel" in buddycloud:
That would also be a good idea. I'd just like to hear what the team thinks of this - because I start unfollowing people. Not because I don't like them. Just because I think their personal channels are too spammy or because I don't understand 90% of what is being said (since the other ppl in that channel use a language I don't understand) – Fahrertuer, on August 22, 2009 14:12
