A comment on the question "restore, restore, restore!" in Apple:

It's in disk mode. Just keeps saying use itunes to restore. It comes up in itunes and itunes says it detects an ipod. Then it seems to go through a restore, says it has and that the icon will disappear and reappear. Not to disconnect. It never reappears in itunes. It shows up in My computer. I even changed the drive letter in case it was trying to send it to another drive. No difference. I have had a couple of times playing the ipod when it just seemed to shut down for no reason. The screen flickered and poof. And a couple of times it would not sync some new songs but did after I tried it a couple of times. The big problem just started though. – Fay, on June 09, 2008 18:28

I did that many times. I have also reinstalled itunes, checked the ipod by immediately doing back, select after menu, select. All appears normal but in itunes diagnostics it acts like ipod isn't even connected. I have changed ports and plugged the ipod into a wall socket for a while too. Help! I don't know what else to do – Fay, on June 09, 2008 18:15

    restore, restore, restore!
After installing the itunes upgrade, it said to upgrade my ipod nano too. I did. Then it said to restore. It acted like it did but I kept getting the message on my ipod that I needed to restore using itunes. I have done it numerous times and done everything I could find suggested in the internet to solve the problem. Nothing has worked. Help!!! I miss my traveling music machine!
