Desktop notifications? Now I need a desktop app. Giving me a way to access my textnow.me email address from something other than Textnow on the iPhone would work.
I used to have this via email from Google Voice, but since I had to redirect those emails to textnow has removed that capability.

Yes, they were in my phone's address book, but the number was labelled with a custom field called "Google Voice."
When it didn't work, I changed the Google Voice field to the standard mobile, deleted the thread from Textnow and started it again by sending them a message from the web interface to which they replied. They still didn't show up linked to their contact.
I went to bed, got up, and there it was. :-)

Well, this morning it finally linked up. I got up and opened Textnow and the problem is gone. I assumed you'd done something on the server already. :-)
I believe there's also a difference in syntax depending on whether the person is in your Google Voice address book or not, but both the contact that worked and the one that didn't work right away were in my Google Voice address book.
I'll go ahead and send you a test just in case.

Messages from other Google Voice accounts not linking properly to contactsI'm using my Google Voice account with Textnow. When someone who doesn't have a google voice account sends me a message and it gets forwarded from Google Voice to Textnow, they are properly linked to my iPhone contacts.
However, when I receive a message from a Google Voice number, it is not properly linked. I'm guessing there's something with the syntax of the email subject line or something that's different with these messages.

Wow. You're right. I'm not sure why it worked for me before, but it isn't now. – fitzage, on July 25, 2009 02:02

I don't think I've used the menubar in Tweetie once I learned the keyboard shortcuts I needed. – fitzage, on July 23, 2009 21:50

But the point is that the menu bar doesn't disappear just because you hide the dock icon. I tried it. – fitzage, on July 23, 2009 18:49

The menu bar doesn't have to go away when there's no Dock icon. That's a flawed assumption.
I used Dock Dodger to remove the dock icon from Tweetie temporarily (it requires you to re-enter your credentials every time you launch the app) and the menubar was still there.
So there's really no reason not to provide an option to remove the dock icon. The menus is the reason they've given, but it doesn't hold up.

My thoughts exactly. I never, ever use the menu bar. It's either keyboard shortcuts or the gear menu in the actual window. – fitzage, on June 08, 2009 16:09

Compose sidebar needs the ability to easily grab files from my computerIt's nice that you can snag images from the web and other messages for sticking into an email, but it would be even nicer if I had the ability to search files and images on my computer in the same way.
The image browser in the attachments dialog is nice, but having something like that plus the ability to add other attachments that are on my computer directly from the compose sidebar would be killer.-

Command-d for don't saveWhen closing a message without sending, and not wanting to save it, the don't save option should allow using command-d to activate it.
Using just D works, but other apps use command-d so that's what I'm used to as a standard.
