...I don't know all the ins and outs...but...I bought a couple tunes from itunes...they played fine...even on my realplayer...but I was clearing some of the programs off my computer...it was running slow...and I deleted itunes...since I have rhapsody...AFTER THAT .m4p would not play...showed as playing but no sound...ANYWAY I FIGURED MAYBE IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH CODE IN ITUNES...figuring with competition apple wants you to buy from itunes...bottom line: I downloaded and reinstalled itunes with quicktime player (i still had my orig. qt player)...anyway when itunes came up...IT HAD RETRIEVED MY .m4p in the library I guess...didn't have to find and put them in...AND THEY PLAYED...so evidently the codex (if that's what they call it) is in the "itunes" software and not in the "qt player."

anyway it works, AND IT PLAYS IN REALPLAYER...TOO!
