fluffy reported a problem in Twitter on January 25, 2008 18:11:

    fluffy
I'm getting replies not intended for me, because of the way replies are detected in the message text
Okay, so, my username (fluffy) is a pretty commonly-used word. And apparently the way that Twitter checks for something as a reply is to see if there's an @ and then looks at the next word. So as a result, when people say something like "@^$*&#^%&*@&% fluffy clouds" or even "I am annoyed @ fluffy dogs" then I get it sent as a reply.

What's even more annoying is a lot of these things are coming from people who only send replies to followers, so from the web interface I just see a message to that effect (though for some reason on Twitterific I get the actual message).

So, basically, ever since this "send replies to people" thing was implemented, I've been getting a lot of miscellaneous crap. Could the reply stuff be changed so that the username has to *immediately* follow the @? (no whitespace or other punctuation or whatever).
