Ahh, http://ping.fm/pingout/ - Yeah, that's better, but we still need a neater solution. – Foomandoonian, on August 23, 2008 11:11

Hmm. What URI do you use exactly? – Foomandoonian, on August 23, 2008 11:08

Are you using the URI for the dashboard? The URI I use *only* shows the drop-down to select the posting mode, and the box into which you type your post - no links other than the post button. It's still a *little* wider than my standard sidebar setting, but not by much. The dashboard is definitely too wide for a sidebar. – notsheep, on August 23, 2008 10:15

Yeah, that works, but if you follow a link, it opens in the main window, and the page is too wide for the sidebar, IMO. – Foomandoonian, on August 23, 2008 10:07

Maybe everyone else already knows how to do this, but until a full-featured extension or sidebar exists, here's something I found useful - I created a FF bookmark for http://ping.fm/pingout/ and set it to open in the sidebar. You can even drag-and-drop text from the webpage you're at to the message-box.

Can we have a setting to NOT shorten links by default?I understand that butting an *asterisk before a link stops them getting ping-ified, but this is easy to forget. I'd like to turn this feature off by default. A good compromise would be to offer a choice of alternative shortening services, as I like to use Bit.ly or Tweetburner.
Alternatively, you need to make ping-links more fully featured, and include stats and custom keywords, etc.
Small problem, but a big deal for me.
