A comment on the discussion "User Ombudsman, not Evangelist" in Plurk:
Kathy: I've been a political activist and community advocate for +40 years. I'm confident that my own attitudes about what constitutes a good community advocate are at least as valid as anybody else's. Confident enough that I don't feel the necessity to repeatedly drop names of so-called experts. – Greg Fowler, on July 26, 2008 22:52
A comment on the discussion "User Ombudsman, not Evangelist" in Plurk:
Your repeated reference to things 'Microsoft' isn't doing much to impress me. Microsoft's Valuable Person label may have some merit, I don't know, but too much of what that company does is about self-interest and self-promotion. I'm not impressed by somebody because of a label that they're wearing.
Worse, your reference to OneNote suggests to me that you care more about the way that you'd be viewed (an MVP) then serving this community. This is Plurk, not a Microsoft product. Before you apply to represent a community of users, perhaps you should get it straight who/what you'll be representing.
You wrote a book and somebody got a Microsoft member to supply a blurb for the cover? Was she paid by you or by your publisher for it? It means nothing to me. It proves nothing.
Kathy, I'll tell you what will impress me. A list of permalinks of the plurks that you made (prior to this position being advertised) in which you publicly berated the A-Team for releasing a buggy feature or for lack of transparency or failure to communicate with us. – Greg Fowler, on July 26, 2008 22:42-

Deleted Plurks Not Really Deleted? Why am I still able to click on a graphic that was embedded in a deleted plurk and view it?
A comment on the question "Is Plurk playing favorites?" in Plurk:
You are completely ignoring the fact that many peeps lost karma in the previous increment while some other peeps who somehow managed to reconnect with Plurk before the end of that increment gained karma ... did they undo that? ... no, they didn't, so an across-the-board increase in the subsequent increment is nothing but "smoke and mirrors" ... the net gain for many was considerably less than for others – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 03:42

I've looked at all the karma-trends data and would like to know where you get your "extra 1.00 karma" from? What specific 4-hour increments are you basing your figure on? – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:17
A comment on the question "Is Plurk playing favorites?" in Plurk:
A "teeny" bit? How much is a "bunch"? How does "just before the outage" matter when karma is calculated on defined 4-hour increments? "Probably more"? Like Scott, I think you're just tossing out wild speculation. – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:15

It doesn't matter if you think it's silly or not. What are important, are concepts like transparency and due process. If Plurk can't be trusted about this, can they be trusted about anything? – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:12

I can't comment.on changes to your karma because apparently you haven't friended karma_trends. I you have and I've simply missed your name, let me know. – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:08

Even though I care about the other issues that you've raised, I care about karma as well. If you don't, then I suggest that you just ignore this thread. – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:04
A comment on the question "Is Plurk playing favorites?" in Plurk:
It doesn't sound to me that you've done enough investigation to know if you should be concerned or not. Instead of relying on what your friends tell you, I suggest that you copy the karma_trends data into your own spreadsheet and crunch it a bit. And instead of something vague like "the night before" I suggest that you refer to specific 4-hour increments (which is what Plurk uses). Bottom line... I'd prefer to hear from the A-Team because nobody else can do more than make guesses. – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 02:02

If you "created" a new plurkr as opposed to simply becoming a friend of an already-existing plurkr, that might account for some. Where in any of the Plurk documentation did you read anything about "an active thread"? – Greg Fowler, on July 19, 2008 01:30-

A comment on the idea "Explain karma loss or gain." in Plurk:
With respect, that's nonsense. If everybody knows the algorithm then it will be a level playing field. People will have the ability to post based on knowledge, as opposed to speculation (the current situation) and will not be penalized by what they don't know (the current situation). What could possibly be wrong with that? As for social interaction, social people will interact in ways that they want to regardless of what's going on with karma. None of the "crap" posts deters me from using cliques to target serious discussions or from initiating them on my public timeline. – Greg Fowler, on July 18, 2008 21:52
