FrakkingOff shared an idea in Flickchart on June 15, 2009 18:48:
Remove Bias Towards Increased RankingsMake movies easier to move DOWN the list, rather than just up.
When I choose to "re-rank" a movie, it gives me three sets of choices. If the movie is far down on my list and belongs higher up (say, at #500 out of 600, when it should be around #100), then I need only go through the re-ranking a few times to get it in the right area.
But if a movie is high up and belongs quite a bit lower (say, at #100 out of 600, when it should be around #500), then it takes forever to move it down by re-ranking. Often, I pick the three choices offered to me as each being better than the movie in question - yet the movie only moves down 1 or 2 spots in ranking (from #100 to #102).
I suspect this is because the "re-ranking" algorithm is biased towards moving movies up - it doesn't ask enough questions about movies that are lower on the list than the movie's current position.
Perhaps expanding the "re-ranking" algorithm to offer more than three (say, six) different comparisons will give it enough information to be more helpful in moving a movie both up AND down. (For instance, the first three choices can be used to determine if the next three choices should be above or below the movie's current position).
FrakkingOff replied on June 15, 2009 18:42 to the idea "Remove "Haven't Seen" for Previously Ranked Movies" in Flickchart:
I think the button should stay where it is.
Often, I've found that I will rank a movie, only to realize I haven't actually seen that movie (i.e., I'd confused it with a different movie). I usually don't realize this until the second or third time it's presented to me as an option, so I think the ability to change our mind and label a movie as unseen is important.

Rambo II Keeps Showing Up, Haven't Seen ItRambo: First Blood Part II keeps showing up, even though I keep indicating that I "Haven't Seen It." When I finally decided to keep count, I noticed that I indicated that I "Haven't Seen It" three separate times within the space of a dozen comparisons!-
FrakkingOff started following the idea "Manually compare two movies" in Flickchart.
