As far as bookmarks goes - you can log onto Xmark's site and see when your bookmarks were last updated, and a fair few times before that, too.
If passwords works the same way then you might be able to log onto Xmarks and see the change-history. If it changed when you didn't make a change - then you know.
Then I'd change your financial passwords anyway. And your xmarks login password too.
Frankly, though I'd trust Mitch Kapor and his Xmarks business it's just too risky IMO too give passwords away to anyone/thing. Systems fail, secrets get compromised, for all sorts of reasons, predictable or not. So the opensource KeePasswordSafe as an external application is my choice. Drag&Drop. I keep copies of the database (in its encrypted, natural form) on multiple computers, on memory sticks, in the boot of my car.. more. They're just too valuable to trust to 'the cloud'.

- that's a fairly serious recommendation. It sounds like fixing Windows with a reformat.
Under what circumstances would anyone subscribing to Xmarks have to start all over again with a new 'Firefox profile'? At what risk are our bookmarks when that happens?
