Hi guys -
I am also one of the "select few". To me this component is simply a must for my membership sites and therefore I am more than willing to "get with the program" by upgrading to the annual Community Builder Documentation Subscription. I mean this has got to be the best 30 bucks I ever invested.
Just a thought,
Chris

Hi Nick -
When trying to access the component throught the backend (administrator) I get the following error (1.0.8b2):
Fatal error: Function name must be a string in
/home/xxxxxxxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_updater/lib/isnclient/manifest.class.php on line 144
I can see that there is an update available but when I click on the update button, all I get is the ajax loading gif (in a full browser window by itself).
I then unistalled the component, reinstalled it, updated it (no problem this time), but still it shows 1.0.8b2 (is this the correct version)?
All the best,
Chris

Hi Nick - Yes the only difference is 1.5.4 (I wanted to check the language problems), but I also managed to get the component installed on my own server and tested. Nothing spectacular, I just wanted to keep you posted. – Chris Freeman, on July 12, 2008 09:08

Hi Nick -
Updated Joomla to 1.5.4 and updated PHP4 to PHP5 (5.2.2) on my own server. Reinstalled and activated Updater component without any problem.
When installing BreezeForms I got the same error as previously (JInstaller::install: INSTALLER LANG NOT INSTALLED.) even though the component installed fine, so I uninstalled the component (NOTE: When uninstalling this component it was listed as FacileForms!) and tried to reinstall it (through your component). This time I got:
* JInstaller::install: WARNSAME
* Package Install: There was an error installing an extension:plg_breezingforms_151b2.zip
* Package Install Failed. The problem may have been transient in nature (i.e., a bad internet connection), so you may want to try again. If the problem persists, please let us know.
I reloaded the site and tried to install the component again - same result as above.
Moving on, I installed Community Builder. Unfortunately I found the same problem as previously (language errors), although the component appears to function properly.
DOCman error (same as BreezeForms):
* JInstaller::install: WARNSAME
* Package Install: There was an error installing an extension:plg_doclink_1.5.0rc1.zip
* Package Install Failed. The problem may have been transient in nature (i.e., a bad internet connection), so you may want to try again. If the problem persists, please let us know.
This component shows up as "previously installed" (even after being uninstalled/deleted and reinstalled).
Everything else installed fine (including the templates and Legacy components - although I still have a problem with the admin menu when using Xplorer).
All the best,
Chris

Hi Nick -
OK, thanks for that. I have now installed the component on the demo server (after creating/activating Network ID). This part went fast and flawless. When looking at the "menu" of software Ican install, I think it is very well laid out, though people who do not know what Legacy is may need more information than the byline at the bottom of the page (this could be linked to a further explanation or written into the UI when the user is installing, or, dare I say it, the manual).
I tried installing "Breezing Forms" which returned the following error (listed 7 times): JInstaller::install: INSTALLER LANG NOT INSTALLED. The compononent seems to have installed correctly anyway.
I then went on to try the CB install and again it would appear there is a problem with the language settings (*see attached screenshot - ss_cb-install.jpg), plus there was a timeout error after installation step 1. I then went on to install step 2 (by using the link shown) and the rest of the component and modules were installed correctly.
All the other (Native) components installed without any problems, including the templates (Jamba/Blank page) and the Aweber plugin process (Amazon).
I then activated the Legacy plugin and installed the rest of the components.
After installing the Joomla Xplorer component (which installed fine) it is not possible to get out of the page again (.../administrator/index.php?option=com_joomlaxplorer) as the top menu (Joomla) items appear not to function. The component links work OK. I tried then to go into a sub-directory, which worked fine, but again no functionality on the main Joomla administrator menu. I had to log out/log in to proceed further. After I logged in again, I re-tried Xplorer (to see if it was just a one-time hitch, but unfortunately, the same problem arrived. (Thjis time I just used back page to exit the component).
FireBoard and uddeIM installed no problem.
When installing DOCman I got the following error:
* JInstaller::install: WARNSAME
* Package Install: There was an error installing an extension:plg_doclink_1.5.0rc1.zip
* Package Install Failed. The problem may have been transient in nature (i.e., a bad internet connection), so you may want to try again. If the problem persists, please let us know.
Plus the "Action" column shows this component as "Previously installed".
With that said, the component actually installed correctly and works fine! :o)
Content Versioning process also works fine.
In general, I noticed the Legacy packages seem to take a slightly longer to install than the Native packages. Not by a lot, but noticable.
All in all this is a fantastic tool and will save tons of time for Joomla users. Well done Nick, an excellent piece of software. I look forward to seeing the beta 2 version.

I have installed a brand new version (1.5.3) of Joomla with a RocketTheme template. The installation of the component went fine, however when I try to "Add Software" I get the following error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '=', expecting ')' in ../public_html/administrator/components/com_updater/lib/isnclient/utils.inc.php on line 84
Any ideas?
Thanx,
Chris

I used to use JoomlaPack too (great component), but have since installed JoomlaCloner, which is an absolutely amazing piece of software (new version). It does everything JoomlaPack does - just faster and better. Yes, it costs money, but anyone can have a 7-day trial (IP/domain dependant) for free. (TIP: If you need to use it for different domains, just use a different email address for the trial, or if you are using a virtual platform use the same IP for all sites).
I used this to clone a complete site from one domain to another in less than 5 minutes (start to finish). Brilliant, and not one single error in the resulting site. (You can even change the database name/details without having to rewrite the configuration file).
Anyway, more info can be found at

I'm also a fan of ChronoForms, so I'll second that suggestion. I have tried several "forms" components, but this one is by far my favourite (perhaps because of the unlimited design possibilities).
Another excellent component (directory) is SOBI2 from Radek and Sigrid Suski. The potential of this software is tremendous and their support is amazing. I have customized and used this component on several sites.

Community Builder is of course a must, as is Seyret. The first (and best) video component available for Joomla ...

Well, that's my 2 cents. Hope you find them useful.
Kindest regards,
Chris
