I got my new iphone 3GS and the problem was still there. However, I tried to uncheck all my offline playlists and then I reinstalled the spotify app. Synced back the same playlists and now it works for me!

When I bought the premium membership I got 2 invites. Will I get 2 new when my subscription is extended next month?

You have to close spotify (not just minimized to the tray) and restart it, then it gets updated (not every day perhaps but every other day :-)
