Hey Jean,
FYI, we are now using our own forums to help with tech questions. You can find them here: http://www.mountaincycle.com/community/
You can post pics etc there as well :)
But just quickly, I would advise against mounting an 8" rotor on the back of the San An that was not engineered for it. While I am sure you could 'bodge' a fix, it will ultimately put more stress into the swingarm than what was originally allowed for.
I suggest keeping the caliper and buying a 6" rotor, which should fit fine and be closer to load spec.

NEW Mountain Cycle Community ForumsWe have set up our own forums at Mountain Cycle.com to better answer any questions you might have, from warranty, tech, sales or just general chat, so you'll be finding us here http://www.mountaincycle.com/community/ from now on :)

Hey Skyline, if you're in the US, drop a line to john@mountaincycle.com and he'll see if he can sort you out. Please mind though, it's Interbike next week, so response times might be on the slow side...

Hey Henry, thanks for the words. For the record, I personally do not believe in complicated or fancy. I have ridden a myriad of bikes over the years and I still think the San An is one of the best bikes ever made for many different reasons. Sure the old girl has issues and needs to be revisited but for the most part, I think it's hard to go past the simplicity of how it goes about doing what it does.
I advocate strongly in keeping real trails bikes simple.

Hey Mike,
That's a great idea. One of the things I am working on is bringing in all web based communication channels to mc.com. Hopefully within the next month we'll have our own forums for private sales, discussion, warranty etc. etc. all at the one spot. A market place would be the perfect fit!
Thanks for the idea.
G replied on August 21, 2009 02:21 to the question "What's new MC?" in Mountain Cycle:
Hi Henry,
There is so much at play here that it's not funny. Putting a bike onto the shelf seems like an easy task from the outside but from the inside, where one has to consider lead times, time lines, forecasts etc. etc. a simple thing becomes very complex.
MC at its core, never followed the trends or seasonal patterns of the market. During it's time with Kinsis, it did and in my opinion that was to its detriment. Now though, as the 'new' Mountain Cycle, we have been steering it back to the roots of what started it in the first place and the principle factor in this is to step out of the 'rat race' and design and develop on our own terms and in our own time. As such we do have plans for a new platform and a revamp in '10 but unlike most others, we are not going to peg that to a date.
Don't loose faith and don't worry. We are all working very hard to get things to where we want them and in saying that, 'where we want them' means a lot more than just a new looking bike.
Cheers,
Gerard-

You could not be more right Robert and hearing it straight from you is great! At 6" 3" and running a platform shock, I don't have too many issues with the old girl other than the slight issue about climbing back on if you off on tight steep goat tracks.
Krien and I have discussed the pro's and cons of the original design and aside from some current testing failures we realised that the only way to bring it back was to re-design it from the ground up. We have it slated on the books but are not rushing into it.

Ummm and yes, that did not answer your question either ;)
In short, hard to say. No reason why it won't be ok but might require a bit of tweakage, like most front mechs do.
Best advice I can say is slap on the old one, give it a go and if it works leave it. The only thing I can see being an issue is the length of the cage, which might be a little longer than newer ones.
No answer there I know.
Best advice? Abandon the front mech and second ring. I did and never looked back. Ya don't need 'em :)
