I've written Trazzlets in 1st, 2nd and 3rd person, depending on how I wish to present the situation to the reader. I've had each accepted. For example here is one in the 2nd person- http://www.trazzler.com/trips/saline-...
Good luck with your trips

MapsI was just thinking that eventually it might be fun, if when people go to their own page or another persons page they can click on a map icon, and the screen fills up with a map. On the map there are little flags or markers in different colors, representing written trips, wishlisted trips, and completed trips. The wishlist and completed lists are fun with their flags, but this would be more dynamic.
And on the subject of maps, being able to click maps for a region to explore and coming up with a list of trips. Key words are good, so long as you know the right keyword. Map point selection can help people that don't already know an area find an area.
Also, it could be fun i there were some way to have a more interactive section of Trazzler... a way to comment directly on trips and have the comments be visible, or of easily viewing the comments.
Also, kudos on the marketing/contest idea. It must be fun watching the page hits and new members rise. A fantastic use of electronic roots marketing.

Galen replied on August 31, 2009 02:46 to the question "USER TRIP vs WRITER STATUS" in Trazzler:
All trips are "User Trips" until they have been reviewed by the editors and approved of. The editors make sure that the trips follow the basic guidelines of Trazzler, and that they are in the Trazzler style.
Anyone can sign up to be a Trazzler writer, it doesn't mean they know how to write- which is why all trips need to be approved of by an editor before being declared a Trazzler Trip.
PS I'm not really an editor, but this is the understanding I've gained. The contest is almost over, so I am sure an editor is about to officially answer your question.

Galen replied on August 30, 2009 02:10 to the question "How's the competition looking??" in Trazzler:
I don't know the final numbers, being just a writer like yourself, but when I do a search on "NYCGO" there are Trazzler trips upto page fourteen. At 15 trips per page, that is currently 210+ and they are still adding some more it seems like. (There could be more, that just don't have pictures and aren't on those first 14 pages.)

My trip was marked "Read by Editor" before contest judging startedHello Trazzler. I asked to have the map location of my trip corrected, before the contest start date, and at about that time my trip was marked as "Read by Editor" before the contest judging began.
So, it's very possible that my trip was not selected as a semi-finalist, but I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't because the trip was overlooked by being prematurely marked as "Read." (I assume it was too early on to make it a semi-finalist, and with all the entries received, I assume you are not re-reading many that are already marked as "read.")
It's okay if it's not accepted, just wanted to make sure.
Thanks,
Galen
P.S. I read other posts saying it was okay to add a photo after the fact, so I did so. I also changed the name of it a couple of days ago, thinking it wasn't accepted and therefore open to editing- I changed the name from "Soothing away the world," to "Soaking away the world."
Galen replied on August 24, 2009 16:59 to the question "freelance concerns???" in Trazzler:
I see it as closer to 18-55 cents a word. The more succinct you can be, while still evoking the essence of a place, the better your pay. I'm not too good at being ultra succinct, but even so the pay is better than what is offered for many, many internet content sites.
And I get to write about places that excited me. I don't have to dress up a ho-hum spot. It's fun writing style for a decent price.
Also, the times when I haven't included a picture, doesn't seem to have mattered for the acceptance of that trip. There are so many free images on the web, that an image doesn't seem to be too big of an issue.

Link went goofyHello Trazzler.
You just published one of my trips, and the link went screwy- #4282 Listening to Nature's (raucous) call.
Here is the link used now- http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/...
Here is what it should be- http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/...
I found another trip of mine that this has happened to, #2085 Drifting by the pastures in Valley Ford.
Here is what the link is- http://www.pointreyesoutdoors.com/Est...
Here is what it should be- http://www.pointreyesoutdoors.com/Est...
This seems to happen to links fairly regularly here, where the extra characters somehow get added. Any idea what causes this? Is it something I am doing?
Finally, why don't I get notifications when my trips are accepted? I've only gotten one notification out of 15 Trazzler trips. Usually it comes as a surprise. I log onto Trazzler, and there's one of my trips as a local recommendation...
Thanks Trazzler

Excellent. I figured all of y'all were working on it, but wanted to make sure. Another thought- will it possible to take certain words off of a travel personality? I won't need the search engine only sending me recommendations written by freelance writers (freelance being my major personality feature.)
And yes, it does seem like you Trazzlers have been on the right track (that's why I keep visiting Trazzler.)
Anyways, thanks for the rapid response. Y'all are pretty good that way.

Shouldn't written trips be part of "Travel Personality?"Hello Trazzler.
It doesn't seem like trips I've written add to my travel personality. It seems like they should. If I've enjoyed an area enough to write about it, it means that it is my sort of place.
Is there a reason I'm not seeing that trips I write don't contribute to my personality?
Thanks,
Galen

A bar for Megan to visit if she finds herself in CulleraI just heard about a bar in Cullera (near Valencia) called "Casa Pocho," where the bartenders encourage the patrons to swear at or insult them, offering free drinks for especially creative patrons.
I haven't been there, nor do I know anyone that has actually been there, so I can't do a trip on this myself.
Take care Trazzler

Entering routes, addresses and distances into trip searchesHello Trazzler.
I was just wondering if you were going to incorporate some sort of system, where you can enter a zip code or address and find all the trips with in particular distance. It seems like there is already something, a little bit along those lines, where you enter a town name in the keywords, and most of the trips within about 10-15 miles come up...
But say for example I was going to visit seattle, and I wanted to find something fun within 40 miles of Seattle. I could type in Seattle, and I would get many trips within Seattle. As it stands now, to find something 40 miles south of Seattle, I would have to find the name of a town in that area, type it in. To also find something 40 miles north, I would have to find a town name, type it in... If there was a way to say "Show me trips within 40 miles of Seattle," it would make it even easier to find things in that distance. If I could also add in a caveat of "South," because I knew I would be heading in that direction already... that would be ultra cool... (That way it would just show me trips to the South, and eliminate trips to the north, east and west if I didn't want to travel in those directions.)
Or if there was some way to enter a route in Trazzler? Say I was driving cross country, and I had a few specific towns I needed to stop in? To be able to enter the route in, and find interesting places to stop within fifteen miles of the route.... wow. If I was driving from San Francisco to Boston, I wouldn't want to have to type in the name of every town along my route, just to make sure I didn't miss something really cool.
For instance, type in an address in San Francsico, and one in Portland. Indicate a distance of 5-10 miles, select the activity or experience you are looking for-"restaurant" "hiking" "camping", etc. and it would show trips along the shortest route...
I have no idea how easy or hard it would be to make a feature like this... but I at least think it would be really cool.

Link went screwy when I postedHello Trazzler,
I just published 3 trips, and the title links are screwy.
The first trip is "Scrabbling over Granite in the Stanislaus National Forest, Ca" The link embedded in the text lower down is fine, and should work for the title link also.
The second trip is "Hearing the roar of Angels in Sausalito, Ca." The title link sends to a different place in the headlands. A pretty good link would be- "http://www.nps.gov/goga/marin-headlands.htm"
The third trip is "Rising above the mists in Inverness, Ca." A decent title link would be "http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/directions_inpark_sfdb.htm"
One of my suggestions is to enable users to adjust the title link, instead of locking this field. Wouldn't have to bug you about it then.
Thanks for fixing this ;)

Galen replied on June 13, 2009 04:31 to the question "Publish a trip from whislist" in Trazzler:
Hello Shita,
When you click the publish button after creating a trip, it then gives you the option to post it in your profile, or to tell a friend. You don't have to do either (although putting it in your profile, simply gives you the choice of saying I strongly recommend this trip, I sort of recommend this trip, or I don't recommend this trip at all. Chances are you will recommend the trip, if you just wrote it.)
If you click on "continue" without selecting "email to friend", "add to profile," etc. it publishes your trip without doing any of those things. I believe clicking cancel also publishes the trip, without adding the trip to your profile or emailing to a friend.
I think that is what you were asking?

I think the May contest lasts until June 15. There is no June contest yet... (I think.)
Instead of calling it the May-June contest, and next months the June-July contest, they simplified the naming to May and June. Why they start them on the 15 instead of the first? I don't know... I don't really work here.
