Garth Webb replied on December 02, 2009 18:30 to the question "Question about multiple blogs." in Six Apart:
Hi Curt,
So you're correct, the current problem is that you need to create a CNAME record. What lunarpages is doing right now is returning an HTML tag called a 'frame'. A frame gets a URL and creates a kind of window within a window on the web page. Lunarpages responds to requests for:
http://thebathroomwall.nobodys-perfec...
and returns a page containing a frame for the URL:
http://mygardenofearthlydelights.type...
Lunar pages doesn't seem to respond to anything but the root page of "thebathroomwall.nobodys-perfect.com" which is why none of the links work and the CSS isn't loading. This type of setup is ok a single page, but wont' work for a full site.
To get this blog up and running at the new URL you'll need to update your CNAME. The help page URLs have changed since my original response above, so let me paste these again:
Domain mapping: http://help.sixapart.com/tp/us/domain...
CNAME configuration: http://help.sixapart.com/tp/us/cname....
Hope this helps!

Hi Kate,
I'm looking at the domain you gave previously as your test site:
http://blog.curtvoss.name/
and it doesn't look like you've removed the "about me" section and the link to "testweblog" hasn't been changed as I suggested earlier. You should be able to fix this easily via the instructions I gave in the last response. Did you have any questions about this?
As for the category and archive links, those and all other links on your blog currently use the 'blog.curtvoss.name' domain; you don't have to change anything. These are managed for you and will use the correct domain.
You definitely can have as many blogs as you want with a Pro TypePad account. If you purchase domains and map them to your blogs, each can have a unique domain that does not end with ".typepad.com" You're very close with 'blog.curtvoss.name', you only need a one-time fix on the two things I mentioned before.
Garth Webb replied on November 14, 2009 00:10 to the question "How To Add Google Analytics & Alexis Code on TypePad" in Six Apart:
There is an easy way to setup Google Analytics.
1) Go to your blog's 'Overview' page (this should be the first page you see when you select your blog from the dashboard).
2) In the right column, at the bottom, there should be a "Set up" link to configure Google Analytics on this blog.
3) Click this link and you should see a page asking for your UA number. There are instructions on this page on how to find your UA number.
4) Enter the UA number into the text box and click "Save Changes."
Your blog is now setup for Google Analytics. The "Set up" link on the overview page should now be a link to your Google Analytics dashboard.
I'm not familiar with how Alexis is set up but it likely wants you to add some javascript. To add this javascript code:
1) Go to your blog's 'Overview' page.
2) Click the 'Design' tab
3) Click the 'Content' link under the 'Customize your current design' text
4) Under 'Categories', find and click the 'Widgets' category
5) Under 'Modules', find and click the 'Embed your own HTML' widget
6) Under details, click the 'Add this module' button
7) In the dialog box, add a label for this widget (won't show up on your page) and paste the Alexis javascript to the HTML section
8) Click 'ok' to close the dialog
9) Click 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.
That should be it to add custom javascript to your blog.
Garth Webb replied on November 04, 2009 17:46 to the question "CNAME Configuration for a TypePad blog" in Six Apart:
Your CNAME configuration appears correct but you haven't setup domain mapping on TypePad yet. The CNAME configuration tells browsers "go to redeasel.typepad.com and ask for www.redeasel.com" Currently TypePad does not know what to serve when asked for 'www.redeasel.com'.
Check out this support article for instructions on how to setup domain mapping:

Garth Webb replied on October 14, 2009 02:24 to the question "Domain Mapping -- Trying to get an answer" in Six Apart:
The mapping just makes www.DOMAIN.com an alias for blog.typepad.com. So, by default, both of these will reach your default blog:
blog.typepad.com
blog.typepad.com/defaultblog
Therefore both of these will also reach your default blog:
www.domain.com
www.domain.com/defaultblog
Links made by TypePad to your default blog will use 'www.domain.com'. Additional blogs on your account will be accessible via:
www.domain.com/otherblog1
www.domain.com/otherblog2
Garth Webb replied on October 14, 2009 02:02 to the question "Domain Mapping -- Trying to get an answer" in Six Apart:
Yes, this is definitely possible. There is a knowledgebase article on this here:
Setting Up Domain Mapping
Basically, on the domain mapping page of your TypePad account:
http://www.typepad.com/account/access...
you add your www.DOMAIN.com URL and map to your entire blog (the other choice is to a particular blog, which you do not want).
It will then be added, but not active. You then go to your domain registrar and setup a CNAME from www.DOMAIN.com to your base TypePad blog URL (e.g. blog.typepad.com)
It usually takes some time for this change to propagate from your registrar (24-48 hours). When its done, you can then activate your domain mapping on the domain mapping page (listed above). Activating a domain means that TypePad will then accept all requests for www.DOMAIN.com as an alias for your blog base blog URL. Additionally, all self referential links on your blog will thereafter be written with this new URL.
Generally this should be a straight forward process. So, if you have already had several interaction with our support team on this, there might be complications I'm not aware of. If this reply still doesn't answer your question, please leave your actual blog URL and I can use that to find your ticket and provide assistance if I am able.

Garth Webb replied on September 04, 2009 20:16 to the question "Question about multiple blogs." in Six Apart:
Hi Kate,
I see two places where your stock TypePad domain (mygardenofearthlydelights.typepad.com) shows up.
1) 'testweblog' link in footer
2) 'About' link in sidebar
For #1 the footer link is automatically added to the footer module when you create the blog. This means it has your stock TypePad domain name. You can easily change this by going to:
Weblog > Design > Content
And then click the pencil icon on the blog footer module. You'll be able to change the links there
For #2, the About page is global to your TypePad account, rather than an individual page for each blog in your account. Because you only domain mapped the blog 'testweblog' and not your whole account, the about page link shows your stock domain name. There are two solutions to this:
a) Map 'blog.curtvoss.name' to your whole account rather than just 'testweblog'. Then make 'testweblog' your default blog. Of course since this is a test blog you probably want to make one of your other blogs the default.
b) Create your own custom about page for each blog by using the Page feature of typepad (see Creating and Managing TypePad Pages in the Knowledge Base). Once you've done this, you can add a link to it in your sidebar using a HTML widget, or you can add a navigation bar under your banner with a link to this page.
Garth Webb replied on August 17, 2009 16:22 to the question "How can I customize a piece of text in the sidebar?" in Six Apart:
Albert, I'd recommend using the CSS recommendation as a guide: http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/. There's a lot of information there, but the index is all on one page so it can be easily searched.
For your question, the only problem I see is the first style:
style="font color=#000000; ...
It looks like you wanted to write 'font-color' but forgot the hyphen. In actuality, the property name you need is just 'color'. Additionally, you have a '=' which is not proper syntax. Between the property and the value, you should have a ':'. So it should look like this:
<p style="color: #000000; text-align: justify; font-size: 9px; line-height: 1.5">
A comment on the question "Two suggested additions: Javascript and custom Post Footers" in Six Apart:
Ah my apologies, I think we've been talking past each other here. Post footer is a lot trickier. Unfortunately I don't think there is a good answer for this using non-advanced templates. – Garth Webb, on July 17, 2009 19:35

Hi Mike,
This feature has actually been implemented recently and there's even a blog post on everything.typepad.com that addresses the question you have. Check out:

No need for messy Javascript!
Garth Webb replied on July 10, 2009 22:43 to the question "Two suggested additions: Javascript and custom Post Footers" in Six Apart:
Hi Mike,
I posted the Javascript tutorial because the customization needed to alter the footer requires a base understanding that is better presented by sites like WebMonkey. Since this is a way to customize your blog outside of the TypePad system, there isn't a TypePad specific guide for how to do this.
As for adding javascript to a page or post, maybe you can give some additional detail about what you'd like to do? As I said earlier, you can add javascript to a page by putting it into an HTML widget. You can add javascript in a post by switching to the HTML view of the compose screen editor.
In both places the javascript you add should be within the standard HTML <script> tag, e.g.:
<script type="text/javascript">
// Javascript code here
</script>
If this still doesn't meet your needs maybe an example of what you'd like to do would help.
Garth Webb replied on July 10, 2009 21:18 to the question "Two suggested additions: Javascript and custom Post Footers" in Six Apart:
Putting javascript into a sidebar widget does not limit it in any way to just affecting sidebar content. The sidebar is part of every page and is simply the place where this customization is available. Javascript is location independent.
To alter the page footers with javascript definitely requires some past javascript experience. However the concept is that you could use javascript to find the <div> tag wrapping the page footer. It has the class name 'footer' so you could find this element via the class name, then replace its contents with any arbitrary HTML.
If you're new to Javascript there's a good Javascript Tutorial on Web Monkey. Lesson three covers the types of things you'd need to know about to alter your footer.
Garth Webb replied on July 10, 2009 19:36 to the question "Two suggested additions: Javascript and custom Post Footers" in Six Apart:
Have you seen the HTML widget in the Design screen? If you look at Weblogs > Design > Content you'll be able to add new side bar modules. If you choose the 'Widgets' category on this page you should see a module labeled 'Embed your own HTML'.
If you add this module you can add any page content you like including javascript.
TypePad currently doesn't support custom post or entry footers, but you could always add javascript code to alter the page. This would allow you to create custom footers without having to create an advanced template for your blog.
Garth Webb replied on July 10, 2009 19:18 to the question "Can TypePad Profiles Exist Without The Umbilical?" in Six Apart:
Our goal for TypePad profiles was to build on the existing blogging experience to create a community with the profile being a central hub for your identity in this community. We see blog writing, reading, commenting and following as parts of someone's identity on TypePad. We encourage sharing all this activity because it provides a much richer experience for everyone participating.
However, we understand not everybody wants to share everything. If you'd like to keep your blog updates private, you can always edit your profile and uncheck any blog you don't want listed in your activity stream. If you want a truly separate identity, you can always create separate a free profile-only TypePad account.
Garth Webb replied on June 26, 2009 17:30 to the question "how to republish my weblog" in Six Apart:
Hi!
Are you have problems seeing content on your blog? TypePad no longer publishes static files. Everything is now dynamic, meaning it is available immediately after you post it, no republishing necessary!
If there is a post that you expected to see on your blog, but is not showing up, try checking its published status. Make sure it is not 'Draft' or set to a future publish date.
