Gerald marked one of nikos' replies in Songbird as useful. nikos replied to the problem "1.1 Freezing while typing in the searchbox".

1. The program hangs and doesn't respon even if I wait for ten minutes. It can only be terminated using the "Force Quit" option of the apple menu.
2. I got 60 GB of music w/ 13.500 files. The database main@library.songbirdnest.com.db is 77,7 MB.
3. It hangs after the first letter

The application shows the same behaviour when I try to change the metadata of several files at once (right mouse click > "Edit Metadata").
Example: Using "List View" I try to change the contents of the "Album" column for 12 files > After typing one or two letters the application hangs.

1.1 Freezing while typing in the searchbox
The FAQ says, that's an old problem but it seems to have come back like a zombie. I just installed 1.1 and every time I try a search (over 60 GB) my Mac (OS X 10.4, 2 GB RAM, library w/ 13.500 files on a firewired HD) freezes after the first letter. (BTW I don't understand why a search starts before I *tell it to start* by hitting the return key or pressing a screen button.)
