    Dear Simi:

    Thank you for your comment,
the problem with Walmart #397 and Sams Club #8250 is their poor service; the problem with I.D. is in their insisting on it in order to complete a sale, which is in contrary to the service agreement, that Walmart signed with Visa Corp. I do have a U.S. passport and a state drivers license, but no other store asks for it. The manager was confused as to why my sister in laws car was registered in Mexico; It is good that he didn't see the three chihuahuas in the back that are licensed in both countries. This Walmart accepts Mexican passports, licenses, and voter registration cards, or a border crossing card as I.D., as they accept Mexican Pesos, or Dollars. This is good, because on the weekends 85 percent of their clientele drive up from Mexico in order to shop. Corn tortillas, beans, and fruit are cheaper in Mexico / most everything else has a 10 to 25% tax added. An example I might see a refrigerator for $800.00 at Sears, but know it will eventually sell for $500.00; the same refrigerator will cost $1000.00 in Mexico, but might go down to $950.00. The problem is resolved as I now shop at another Walmart several miles away from this store; There is an excellent Sams Club in Brownsville Texas as well.

    Sincerely, Glenn Hall

p.s. Don't show your I.D. without a very good reason.

    GH reported a problem in Wal-Mart on November 15, 2008 19:18:

    Walmart #397 'fear the giant'
Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #397 1200 E. Jackson Ave. Mcallen, TX 78503. On 11/09/08 at approximately 9:00 p.m., I tried to use a visa card which the machine accepted, but the clerk asked for I.D., (the card was properly issued, and is signed) and I offered to sign any receipts twice. She did not give me my card back at that time, but asked for a manager / managers. I talked to two other uniformed and one plain clothed manager who said that it was store policy (to refuse a credit card without additional I.D.), even after I explained the visa merchant policy. They canceled the sale - refusing to sell me approx. $30.00 of items for not showing an I.D. in violation of their contract with 'visa' *. The manager even asked me some inappropriate questions such as were do you live, and why do you drive a car with mexican plates; I asked - what is your name / which he refused to give me. This Walmart suffers from borderitis (10 miles north of Mexico), and consistently gives poor service. 1) most of the staff is in the back, and the employees will often either not answer, or can't answer a question, ...even the greeters stare at you. Once, I was double charged for several items, and it took 30 minutes for a manager to come to the help desk in order to give a refund - no apology; another time, the cashier placed a bag, on the floor, rather than in the cart (pay for twenty, receive nineteen), More than once, the cashier has had to ask for instructions, as how to price match items. There are other walmarts, several miles away, that treat their customers with dignity though. Sorry - this may be the sorriest walmart in the walmart empire.
