Hi Eric,
Actually, replacing the profile didn't solve the problem. I mentioned that in the original post. A solution was being posted that suggested replacing three files (extensions.ini, extensions.cache and extensions.rdf. That didn't work, either. However, elsewhere, I saw a similar suggestion which also included deleting the compatibility settings file in addition to the other three. When I did that and restarted firefox, everything worked fine.

I solved the problem. A solution was being passed around which involved deleting three files from the profile folder that may be corrupt. I'd tried this to no avail. Last night, when searching on Foxfire's support site, I saw a similar suggestion that included a fourth file (sorry can't remember the name now) to be deleted. When I deleted all four files from the profile folder and restarted Firefox, I reinstalled Foxmarks and it works fine. I stuck with the 2.7 version rather than update to Xmarks.

gigtime reported a problem in Xmarks on April 16, 2009 02:46:
Xmarks/Foxmarks doesn't show in Tools Menu, locks up Add-0n BoxInstalled Foxmarks & worked fine for months. Now, upgraded to Xmarks. Shows on Add-ons box but clicking "Options" locks up the Add-ons box and nothing works. Foxmarks (or Xmarks) does not show up in the Tools menu at all. I'm using Firefox 3.0.8 on an XP maching.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Foxmarks and Firefox itself. I've deleted Firefox profile setting that may have been corrupted as suggested on Mozilla but don't work.
Xmarks works fine on my Vista laptop and my other XP PC.
