Avatar uploading not happening/hangs.

When I attempt to upload a new avatar, which is just my old avatar, with some things removed/some added(so same size as existing pixel wise), the system hangs/will not upload. I tried on both Lifehacker and Gizmodo. Right now it's been ten minutes of the little circle, well, circling. Background of the window, i.e. my profile is grayed out and can not click any of the buttons, hit esc, etc... Must close tab/window to get out. Only started with the new format/system change.

Can not change user name in profile pages on Gawker sites. I have tried Gizmodo, Gawker, io9, Lifehacker, etc... and you can get to the profile page, but when you select edit, the page it brings you to allows you to change everything BUT your user name. This is a problem because Gizmodo is having a contest that requires you to change your user name. you CAN change your name on the profile page on Consumerist, which makes me believe it is related to some recent change. I notice this because I change my user name everyday.

Try going over to Consumerist, and using their profile page. It's what I have been doing.

So what will the new "replies" heading in our profiles display if and/or when it goes live? Will it display replies to our comments, or replies we have made to other's comments? I'm hoping the former.

If you are a gizmodo user, check to make sure that when you are in your profile, the URL isn't i.gizmodo.com. If it is, remove the " i. " part, and you should be good to go. For some reason a few months back, gizmodo made all of their story urls begin w/ i.gizmodo.com, which screwed with editing your profile. As for preview, I know nothing. We are all missing it.

No commas appear in Gizmodo comments

Today I noticed that any commas I put into my comments on Gizmodo have been edited out.

This comment, http://i.gizmodo.com/5140864/the-very... , read when I wrote it: She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. Now the commas are gone. If you expand all on any post, the only commas that appear are in user names and in the reply counter next to comments.

It takes a few days for an uploaded picture to finally make it "live" on the servers. The more you upload it, the longer it seems to take as it drops you in the que in my experience.

It's not "censorship". Websites that don't involve something like a "captcha" frequently get spammed by computer generated spam posts. This step puts a human in charge, and once it is determined you aren't a bot, you can post. I myself had to go through the process, so just be patient. And please tone down the logical fallacies, they don't help.

Comments partly appear on screen/ partly off screen

When I view certain stories, like this one on Lifehacker : http://lifehacker.com/5047383/disting... in both IE and Firefox, the comments appear off center and you can't read them. This has happened on Consumerist as well, but I can not remember the story there. I am accessing with XP.

Have you also tried hitting ctrl-f5? The usually makes the page completely reload from the site and not from cache.

I found that if you keep uploading it, it prevents it from being picked up during updates. I'm guessing there is a que, and if you upload, it bumps you to the bottom.
