A comment on the problem "Boxee's media tagging is down right broken!" in boxee:
@mjmvisser: Thats the only possible way of it recognizing the file. Whether you don't want to change your library or not doesn't make a difference, they need to match it against some sort of database in order to get the metadata. If you don't like the way it does this, you can always just use the "Browse" function. That way everything is just as you have it. – giyad, on October 31, 2009 18:22

Alternate Movie Names - Media TaggingBoxee should have a different naming convention than the current one, and should also have a different way of recognizing files. Right now, it just takes the filename and queries it against imdb, but there are a few flaws here:
- Movies named differently than the ones on IMDB are completely ignored and do not resolve.
- Movies not listed on IMDB are completely ignored and do not resolve.
- Movies with foreign titles are displayed in that language.
- Alternate titles are not always recognized.
These are a few problems that I have personally had, I'm not sure if others have had more issues. Anyway, I think that Boxee should:
- Recognize the physical filename (whether it is in IMDB or not), and if it is in IMDB, it can fetch the data.
- Display alternate movie titles if the file that has been resolved was resolved using an alternate title. For example, I have a movie called "Life is Beautiful". This is an Italian movie and the name resolves to "La vita è bella" even though I have the physical filename in English. This means that Boxee has used the alternate title in IMDB to fetch the data, so why not stick to that title that it used?
A comment on the idea "Boxee Media Scanning/Recognition/Categorization Utopia!?!?" in boxee:
the way boxee works right now is it reads the physical filename and queries it against a database (imdb for movies and thetvdb for shows). If the name is different, it won't be able to recognize it, and if its not on one of those DB's, it won't find it either. http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?...
What I think Boxee needs to do though, is it should take all that data that it finds and write it onto the file as metadata. This way, Boxee can move to reading metadata as well, and our files can have all that info in it. – giyad, on October 29, 2009 01:51

thanks... this should be made easier though haha, and with less steps. I think if they just make it so that you can optionally create an account to use the browser it would work. That way, each user can keep track of their add-ons but everything will be stored on the cloud somewhere. Maybe not something that Mozilla should do since their open source, but someone should.
I'll try that out though, thanks again! – giyad, on October 25, 2009 03:41

Simple installation across systems (including plugins)It would be awesome if there was a way for me to install all my plugins for Firefox whenever I installed FF on a new system. For example, I just installed FF on Windows 7, but I have to install all my plugins, search for them, download them, etc... But it would be awesome if i could just create an install file that would install all of these at once, preferably when installing FF too!
giyad reported a problem in boxee on October 21, 2009 19:23:
Internet Apps break BoxeeThis doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time when I try to watch something through an App (like Hulu feeds, or from Justin.TV) it will break Boxee.
Let me explain with an example. lets say I select an episode of House from Hulu Feeds, the episode will load and actually start playing, but the flash loading circle (i think its flash) won't go away. So, I'll be watching the episode with a loading circle. If I try to stop the episode, or exit, I can't. It doesn't allow the menu bar to pop up, so I either have to wait for the episode to finish, or shutdown the ATV. I've never waited for an episode to finish so I don't know exactly what will happen, but I'm assuming it will fix it.
This happens ONLY through apps, and so far has happened to me through multiple apps so I didn't report this as a Hulu problem. I'm on the latest stable release of Boxee for ATV.

Have you heard of echodio? It allows you to stream and synchronize a playlist with Boxee and other platforms too. I haven't used it, mainly because it only allows you to synchronize that one "Echodio" playlist while I have multiple playlists that I've already created... I might test it out, but just haven't gotten around to it. – giyad, on May 05, 2009 16:28

not only that, but episodes will show up a lot of the times in "Movies"... its really annoying to be going through my movies list and see random episodes of Seinfeld scattered around! – giyad, on May 02, 2009 14:24
