Thanks for the pointer, Jigar. Imagine, Chrome + AIR... I'm quite excited. What a *fast* browser this is-- it feels as if I bought a new computer...
Do you use Twitter? We're very close to launching a new tool that's about link sharing in the context of Twitter specifically -- let me know and I'll set you up.

Well, I agree bookmarklet is good and it satisfies mostly.. but I have been using screenshot functionality for some websites where there are no images on the page still I want to save the layout of the site for later reference!! That thing is not possible with bookmarklet!! May be for that, we will need extension!
Grex, I read it on some blog post (Chrome has a browser extensions framework that will allow it to make Adobe-AIR type hybrid apps, and because of its sharing of code with Firefox it may even become easy for Firefox extensions to be ported over to Chrome @ http://ostatic.com/172340-blog/hands-...)

Hi Götz,
The feature is certainly not missing by intention -- it's one of those things that was always one step further down on the to-do list -- we simply haven't gotten to it yet. We plan on adding it in the near future -- both the via information for websites as well as users.
Thanks for your patience!
Götz reported a problem in Mento on August 26, 2008 09:20:
Edit via informationBefore one of the last bigger updates I could edit the via-Information, but now I can't find a way to do that. Sometimes the referrer is not really the correct via-Link, and I also do not always "re-share" links of contacts directly over the "share" link on Mento, so some information is lost by that because I cannot edit the via field.
This also affects your ranking system, because the user then gets no points for this "re-shared" link, although he should get some.
I used to use from:*-tags (as counterpart to for:*-tags) on del.icio.us to mark from whom I got some link - but as Mento has a via field I shouldn't only use an own strange system for doing that.
Are You working on this, or why did you remove the option to edit the via information? Or did you only move it somewhere, where I don't find it?
Kind regards,
Götz

I agree, Google reader integration is very important! One more idea (@http://getsatisfaction.com/mento/topi...) that I posted recently also speaks similar stuff.. – Jigar Mehta, on August 25, 2008 11:55-

Hi Greg, I know that I can flip the box from side to side, but it is easier to resize the box and put it where I like it.

Hi konterkariert, that's really great input. We'll definitely use it in updating the Mento Box in the next iterations. As I see it, one of your main requests is to make those extra options more easily accessible -- is that a fair statement?
Also wanted to mention: you can now flip the Mento Box to the right in case it covers parts on the left side of the page. Simply click "flip right" in the upper right (next to "add image" etc). Have you tried that already? – grex, on August 18, 2008 09:52

Thanks for your input on this thread. With regard to the tag textbox that keeps moving your cursor to the beginning: You are using Opera, I presume? All these browsers handle cursor so inconsistently, it's a nightmare... The reason the cursor needs to be moved/repositioned is because of the autocomplete feature -- I'll look into ways of improving that.
Regarding your preferences: There are saved globally (in Mento's database) but right now, those preferences only get loaded when you log into Mento. So, if you're working on different machines, I recommend that you logout and login once to fetch your preferences. Sorry about this momentary inconvenience. – grex, on August 18, 2008 09:48

Ah, that would be so awesome -- I agree. It's especially useful for YouTube videos that are embedded in other pages... but alas, it's not that easy. When I feel impulsive, I'll give it a shot and will try some things.
Regardless of the mouse selection though, we'll be expanding the list of supported video sites soon. As you noted, videos on YouTube and Vimeo get embedded automatically -- but those aren't the only sites of course...

Well, they already do that for Vimeo. They just take the video without even let the user click on it, at least for one Vimeo link I saved it worked like that (Example: http://www.mento.info/goetz/archive/4...).-

Hi together,
another problem I just noticed yesterday is, that the "posting preferences", by that I mean the settings for the "Share with Mento" box, are not saved globally for me as user, but locally, maybe in cookies.
That is really disturbing and also annoying - when I say, that I want to have the tag input textbox, then I want to have it always and everywhere.
Just because it's in this thread I want to make clear that I do think that the new box is better than the old one, but of course not perfect.
One more issue I have is that I'm always struggling with the tag input textbox because when I write the first tag, the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the field. Why that? Because of that I don't type spaces after commas when tagging, because then I could just type my tags and be fine. But that feels a bit strange - or is this a feature?
(This may be nothing which was changed with the new box, but still is annoying.)
Kind regards,
Götz
